A low cartilage formation and repair endotype predicts radiographic progression of symptomatic knee osteoarthritis.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disease with multiple endotypes. A hallmark of OA is loss of cartilage; however, it is evident that the rate of cartilage loss differs among patients, which may partly be attributed to differential capacity for cartilage repair. We hypothesize that a low cartilage repair endotype exists and that such endotypes are more likely to progress radiographically. The aim of this study is to examine the associations of level of cartilage formation with OA severity and radiographic OA progression. We used the blood-based marker PRO-C2, reflecting type II collagen formation, to assess levels of cartilage formation. ⋯ Level III post hoc exploratory analysis of one longitudinal cohort and a sub-study from one phase III clinical trial.

Rotator cuff tear with concomitant long head of biceps tendon (LHBT) degeneration: what is the preferred choice? Open subpectoral versus arthroscopic intraarticular tenodesis.
Lesions associated with the biceps tendon are commonly detected during arthroscopic repair of rotator cuff tears. Acquiring a preferable technique to repair both cuff and long head of biceps tendon (LHBT) lesions was the aim of several recent studies. This study aimed to compare clinical and functional outcomes of open subpectoral versus arthroscopic intraarticular tenodesis in patients with repairable rotator cuff tear associated with LHBT degeneration. ⋯ II.

The final implant position of a commonly used collarless straight tapered stem design (Corail®) does not correlate with femoral neck resection height in cement-free total hip arthroplasty: a retrospective computed tomography analysis.
In total hip arthroplasty, inadequate femoral component positioning can be associated with instability, impingement and component wear and subsequently with patient dissatisfaction. In this study, we investigated the influence of femoral neck resection height on the final three-dimensional position of a collarless straight tapered stem (Corail®). We asked two questions-(1) is neck resection height correlated with version, tilt, and varus/valgus alignment of the femoral component, and (2) dependent on the resection height of the femoral neck, which area of the stem comes into contact with the femoral cortical bone? ⋯ Level 3.

Hidden and overall haemorrhage following minimally invasive and open transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion.
Hidden haemorrhage has been proved to be significant in joint surgery. However, when referring to lumbar interbody fusion, it is often ignored because of its invisibility. This randomized controlled study aimed to calculate and compare hidden haemorrhage following minimally invasive and open transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS-TLIF and open TLIF). Meanwhile, its clinical significance was also analyzed. ⋯ Level II.

A comparative study of two percutaneous pinning techniques (lateral vs medial-lateral) for Gartland type III pediatric supracondylar fracture of the humerus.
The management of displaced supracondylar fracture of the humerus with closed reduction and percutaneous pin fixation is the most widely accepted method of treatment, but controversy continues regarding the pin fixation techniques. A prospective randomized controlled study was undertaken to compare the stability, functional outcome and iatrogenic ulnar nerve injury between lateral pin fixation and medial-lateral pin fixation. ⋯ Lateral pin fixation offers similar functional and radiological outcome and almost equal mechanical stability compared with medial-lateral pinning without the risk of iatrogenic ulnar nerve injury.
