The efficacy of tolrestat in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. A meta-analysis of individual patient data.
The aim of this meta-analysis was to review the existent evidence on the effectiveness of tolrestat in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. ⋯ After a treatment duration ranging between 24-52 weeks, patients treated with tolrestat had a reduced risk for developing nerve function loss compared with placebo-treated patients. Future long-term trials are needed to evaluate the impact of the treatment on more clinically meaningful endpoints such as the development of foot complications.

Cost-effectiveness of interferon-alpha and conventional chemotherapy in chronic myelogenous leukemia.
To compare the cost-effectiveness of interferon-alpha with that of hydroxyurea as initial therapy for patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) in the chronic phase. ⋯ Compared with hydroxyurea, interferon-alpha is, in most clinical scenarios, a cost-effective initial therapy for patients with chronic-phase CML who can tolerate the drug.

Meta AnalysisContinuous labor support from labor attendant for primiparous women: a meta-analysis.
To evaluate the available literature on the effects of continuous labor support among primiparous women. ⋯ Labor support may have important positive effects on obstetric outcomes among young, disadvantaged women. Further studies on benefit relative to cost are needed before a broad-scale program is advocated.

Meta AnalysisThe effectiveness of chiropractic for treatment of low back pain: an update and attempt at statistical pooling.
To determine the effectiveness of chiropractic treatment for patients with low back pain by means of a systematic review of the literature. ⋯ There is certainly a need for correctly executed trials. In future research on the effectiveness of chiropractic, guidelines for uniform execution and reporting of RCTs should first be established to enable subsequent statistical pooling in systematic reviews of chiropractic trials.
