Navigated total knee arthroplasty (TKA) results in better restoration of neutral mechanical axis than does the conventional technique. Nevertheless, coronal malalignment has not been eliminated. It is yet unknown whether errors in implant positioning occur more on the femoral side, more on the tibial side, or equally on both sides. ⋯ The femoral component was positioned more precisely than the tibial component. The latter influences gap management in the tibia-first technique and may thereby have a relevant effect on joint stability. Accuracy of the surgical technique and differences in the mathematical algorithm for the determination of landmarks are possible reasons for the difference in precision between the femoral and tibial component positioning.

Recently we coined the term supercutaneous plating using a locking compression plate (LCP) as an external fixator. The use of this technique in peri-articular areas is facilitated by the development of anatomical plates with various screw sizes. The purpose of this report is to describe our results using the metaphyseal locking plate (LCP) as an external fixator in the treatment of infected post-traumatic problems of the distal tibia. ⋯ Infection of the distal tibia after treatment of traumatic and post-traumatic problems is a challenging problem. It is common practice that after initial debridement and hardware removal, temporary bony stabilisation is provided by external fixation. Most external frames for the lower leg are bulky and cumbersome, causing significant problems for the patient. To circumvent these issues, we have successfully used an anatomically-contoured metaphyseal locking compression plate as external fixator in a series of seven patients for acute or post-traumatic problems of the tibia.

Comparative StudyAdvantage and limitations of a minimally-invasive approach and early weight bearing in the treatment of tibial shaft fractures with locking plates.
Intramedullary nailing is a common method of treating tibial shaft fractures. However, precise control of reduction at the proximal and distal quarters is difficult to achieve. The purpose of this study was to assess the results of plating using locking screws and the feasibility of a minimally-invasive approach. ⋯ Level I university regional hospital Cohort study.

This study reports radiographic and clinical treatment outcomes of tibial tubercle osteotomy (TTO) used for two-stage revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in the setting of periprosthetic infection. ⋯ TTO can be a useful extensile surgical approach for treatment of infected TKA with satisfactory clinical and radiographic outcomes.
