Multicenter StudyEvaluation of an expectation and outcome measurement questionnaire in ankle fracture patients: The Trauma Expectation Factor Trauma Outcomes Measure (TEFTOM) Eurasia study.
The Trauma Expectation Factor Trauma Outcomes Measure (TEFTOM) questionnaire is a self-administered, patient-rated outcome measurement questionnaire designed to measure both 'expectation' and 'outcome' in orthopaedic trauma patients using two subsets of 10 items. We aimed to validate this instrument in a culturally diverse cohort of patients recruited from Asian and European regions. ⋯ TEFTOM demonstrated good psychometric properties in this cohort of patients with ankle fractures. The TEF 'expectation' score was predictive of the TOM 'outcome' score. We recommend researchers and clinicians to utilize TEFTOM when patient expectation measurement is concerned for orthopaedic trauma patients.

Single screw type of lag screw results higher reoperation rate in the osteosynthesis of basicervical hip fracture.
Basicervical hip fractures are relatively rare with greater biomechanical instability compared to the other types of hip fractures. Several studies have reported ambivalent surgical outcomes of basicervical hip fractures. The purpose of this multicenter study was to analyze surgical outcomes of basicervical hip fractures according to the fixation type of proximal femur and lag screw type. ⋯ Basicervical hip fractures treated with osteosynthesis resulted to high rates of surgical complications in this study. However, they could be drastically reduced if CMN with blade type or two integrated screw type were used in the osteosynthesis of basicervical hip fractures.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
The effect of remote ischaemic preconditioning on myocardial injury in emergency hip fracture surgery (PIXIE trial): phase II randomised clinical trial.
To investigate whether remote ischaemic preconditioning (RIPC) prevents myocardial injury in patients undergoing hip fracture surgery. ⋯ RIPC reduced the risk of myocardial injury and infarction after emergency hip fracture surgery. It cannot be concluded that RIPC overall prevents major adverse cardiovascular events after surgery. The findings support larger scale clinical trials to assess longer term clinical outcomes and mortality.

Multicenter StudyIs Insurance Status Associated with the Likelihood of Operative Treatment of Clavicle Fractures?
Most closed clavicle fractures are treated nonoperatively. Research during the past decade has reported differences in the treatment of clavicle fractures based on insurance status in the US and may highlight unmet needs in a vulnerable population, particularly because new data show that surgery may lead to improved outcomes in select populations. Large-scale, national data are needed to better inform this debate. ⋯ Level III, therapeutic study.

Multicenter StudyCharacteristics of hardware failure in patients undergoing surgical stabilization of rib fractures: A Chest Wall Injury Society multicenter study.
Surgical stabilization of rib fractures (SSRF) is increasingly used for severe rib fractures/flail chest. There are no reports discussing mechanisms of failure of implanted hardware, its clinical presentation, or consequences. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the incidence, presenting signs, and clinical sequela of hardware failure after SSRF. ⋯ Therapeutic, level V.
