Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
A biomechanical study comparing minimally invasive anterior pelvic ring fixation techniques to external fixation.
INFIX and Pelvic Bridge are two new minimally invasive surgical techniques for unstable pelvic ring injuries, and they have demonstrated early clinical success in small, single-center case-series. The primary objective of this study is to gather evidence speaking to the biomechanical stability of internal bridging methods relative to external fixation, with the expectation of biomechanical equivalence. ⋯ Our study provides the biomechanical foundation necessary to support future clinical trial implementation for pelvic fracture patients. While biomechanical stability of these newer, subcutaneous techniques is equivalent to APEF, the surgeon must take into account their technical abilities and knowledge of pelvic anatomy, patient-specific factors including body habitus, and the potential complications associated with each implant and the ability to avoid them.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Eleven-year follow-up of two cohorts of patients comparing stand-alone porous-tantalum cage versus autologous bone graft and plating in anterior cervical fusions.
Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion with a porous tantalum cage is an accepted method to treat degenerated cervical discs, with good results, similar to those with autologous bone graft and plating at short- and mid-term follow-up. However, to date, long-term follow-up studies have been performed. ⋯ These results show that the clinical and radiological outcomes achieved at mid-term follow-up using a tantalum cage for single-level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion will be maintained for 11 years postoperatively, similar to the results with autologous bone graft and plating.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyScrew Fixation Versus Hemiarthroplasty for Nondisplaced Femoral Neck Fractures in Elderly Patients: A Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial.
Elderly patients with a displaced femoral neck fracture treated with hip arthroplasty may have better function than those treated with internal fixation. We hypothesized that hemiarthroplasty would be superior to screw fixation with regard to hip function, mobility, pain, quality of life, and the risk of a reoperation in elderly patients with a nondisplaced femoral neck fracture. ⋯ Therapeutic Level I.
