Randomized Controlled TrialTo evaluate the role of platelet-rich plasma in healing of acute diaphyseal fractures of the femur.
New research is focusing on the use of autologous growth factors to increase the effect of bone fracture healing while decreasing the amount of healing time for the patient. Platelets have been demonstrated to be the natural storage vessel for several growth factors and cytokines that promote blood coagulation, tissue repair, and the process of bone mineralization. The present study aims to evaluate the role of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in healing of acute femoral shaft fractures radiologically. We hypothesize that it provides artificial hematoma and releases various growth factors. ⋯ PRP has no effect on femoral shaft fracture healing treated with closed intramedullary nailing. However, PRP and matrix scaffold provided by fibrin membrane may provide an artificial hematoma effect in the initial phase of healing in open or failed closed intramedullary nailing.

The use of operative treatment for clavicular fractures is increasing, despite varying results in previous studies. Minimally invasive percutaneous osteosynthesis versus ORIF for Sanders type II and III calcaneal fractures: a prospective, randomized intervention trial.
This randomized controlled trial compared the clinical outcomes and complications of a novel minimally invasive percutaneous osteosynthesis (MIPO) with those of conventional treatment via an extended L-shaped lateral approach for calcaneal fractures. ⋯ Compared with conventional ORIF, the advantages of MIPO are a considerably shortened operating time and hospital stay, decreased postoperative pain, and reduced risk of wound healing complications.

Randomized Controlled TrialHemiarthroplasty versus internal fixation in super-aged patients with undisplaced femoral neck fractures: a 5-year follow-up of randomized controlled trial.
There were higher rates of revision, complication, non-union, delayed union, and poorer functional outcomes reported in super-aged patients of undisplaced femoral neck fractures treated with internal fixation. Therefore, we designed this randomized comparative study aiming to compare the effectiveness and long-term follow-up results of hemiarthroplasty (HA) with that of multiple cannulated screws (MCS). ⋯ Hemiarthroplasty with less postoperative complications, low reoperation rate and better function recovery in early stage provide a good choice for the treatment of super-aged patients with nondisplaced femoral neck fracture.

Randomized Controlled Trial[The Effect of Activation of the Shoulder Girdle Muscles on Functional Outcomes of Rehabilitation in Patients with Surgically Treated Distal Radius Fractures].
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY The aim of the study was to assess the functional outcomes of rehabilitation in patients with surgically treated distal radius fractures in the early postoperative period. We compared the functional outcomes of patients undergoing standard rehabilitation with the group of patients whose postoperative rehabilitation was extended with shoulder girdle exercises of the affected upper limb while the wrist was immobilized. Several indices and variables were used for the assessment of the functional therapeutic outcomes of the affected wrist. ⋯ CONCLUSIONS Shoulder girdle muscles exercises after a distal radius fracture, while wrist is immobilized, can evidently enhance functional capability and accelerate the hand-function restitution. Early functional outcomes of the injured wrist after the rehabilitation with shoulder girdle muscles exercises support the efficiency of this broadened rehabilitation protocol.
