Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Hydrocodone/acetaminophen and tramadol chlorhydrate combination tablets for the management of chronic cancer pain: a double-blind comparative trial.
The purpose of this study was to compare the analgesic efficacy and tolerability of opioids hydrocodone and tramadol in the relief of cancer pain. ⋯ There was no superior analgesic efficacy with the administration of hydrocodone/acetaminophen when compared to patients receiving tramadol in the relief of cancer pain. Tramadol produced more mild side effects than hydrocodone.

Does intraosseous equal intravenous? A pharmacokinetic study.
Despite the growing popularity of intraosseous infusion for adults in emergency medicine, to date there has been little research on the pharmacokinetics of intraosseously administered medications in humans. The objective of the study was to compare the pharmacokinetics of intraosseous vs intravenous administration of morphine sulfate in adults. ⋯ The results support the bioequivalence of intraosseous and intravenous administration of morphine sulfate in adults.

Postmarketing surveillance study of OxyContin tablets for relieving moderate to severe postherpetic neuralgia pain.
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of OxyContin tablets(controlled-release oxycodone hydrochloride: 5, 10, 20, and 40 mg) in relieving moderate to severe postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) pain. ⋯ Controlled-release OxyContin tablets demonstrated fast onset of PHN pain control, superior efficacy in relieving both moderate and severe PHN pain, and a good safety profile.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyDisposition and clinical outcome after intraperitoneal meperidine and ropivacaine administration during laparoscopic surgery.
Limited evidence supports the efficacy of intraperitoneal (IP) meperidine or local anesthetic for postoperative analgesia. Our study aims were to investigate analgesic efficacy and to quantify the plasma concentrations of meperidine and ropivacaine after IP administration. The null hypothesis was that there was no significant difference among groups for dynamic pain in the first 24 h after major abdominal laparoscopic surgery. ⋯ Compared with systemic opioid, IP meperidine and ropivacaine, alone or in combination, did not produce better pain relief or opioid dose-sparing after laparoscopic surgery.
