Chronic pain is a common postsurgery symptom. It has an adverse impact on patients' overall wellbeing. Chronic pain after an operation is caused by intricate mechanisms that have not been well understood. The predictability of most surgical methods has enabled scholars to conduct randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving pharmacological interventions to prevent chronic pain after a surgery. Therefore, the present study aims to evaluate the curative effects of gabapentin to prevent chronic pain in adults after surgery. ⋯ The summary provided in this systematic review will judge whether gabapentin intervention is effective and feasible to prevent chronic pain in adults following surgery.Registration number: 10.17605/OSF.IO/XG4CK.

The comparison of ketamine with fentanyl for pain control of pediatric orthopedic emergencies remains controversial. We conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the influence of ketamine versus fentanyl on pain management among pediatric orthopedic emergencies. ⋯ Ketamine may be similar to fentanyl in terms of the analgesic efficacy for pediatric orthopedic emergencies.

The analgesic efficacy of pregabalin for shoulder arthroscopy: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
The efficacy of pregabalin for pain management of shoulder arthroscopy remains controversial. We conduct this meta-analysis to explore the influence of pregabalin versus placebo on the postoperative pain intensity of shoulder arthroscopy. ⋯ Pregabalin may benefit to pain control after shoulder arthroscopy.

Comparative efficacy of therapeutics for traumatic musculoskeletal pain in the emergency setting: A network meta-analysis.
Musculoskeletal pain control is essential in the management of trauma patients in the emergency department (ED). Here, we performed a network meta-analysis of the use of analgesics to manage traumatic musculoskeletal pain. ⋯ NSAIDs were the most effective medications for treating traumatic musculoskeletal pain, and combination therapies may not have advantages in the ED setting.

Pharmacotherapy for the Prevention of Chronic Pain after Surgery in Adults: An Updated Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
Chronic postsurgical pain can severely impair patient health and quality of life. This systematic review update evaluated the effectiveness of systemic drugs to prevent chronic postsurgical pain. ⋯ Despite agreement that chronic postsurgical pain is an important topic, extremely little progress has been made since 2013, likely due to study designs being insufficient to address the complexities of this multifactorial problem.
