Multicenter Study
Treatment patterns of elderly breast cancer patients at two Canadian cancer centres.
Treatment of breast cancer in elderly women is limited by declining functional status and life expectancy. The impact of providing less aggressive treatment remains controversial. This study assessed the treatment patterns of elderly breast cancer patients. ⋯ Women ≥80 y received less aggressive treatment than younger women and had less favourable DFS and OS. Until age-specific recommendations are available physicians must use clinical judgement and assess the tumour biology with the patient's comorbidties to make the best choice.

Surgical care for the aged: a retrospective cross-sectional study of a national surgical mortality audit.
It is assumed that increased age signifies increased surgical care. Few surgical studies describe the differences in care provided to older patients compared with younger patients. We aimed to examine the relationships between increasing age, preoperative factors and markers of postoperative care in adults who died in-hospital after surgery in Australia. ⋯ The oldest patients received lower levels of care than the medium and youngest age groups.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyValidity and applicability of a video-based animated tool to assess mobility in elderly Latin American populations.
To assess the reliability and the validity of Portuguese- and Spanish-translated versions of the video-based short-form Mobility Assessment Tool in assessing self-reported mobility, and to provide evidence for the applicability of these videos in elderly Latin American populations as a complement to physical performance measures. ⋯ These results provide evidence for high reliability and good validity of the Mobility Assessment Tool in its Spanish and Portuguese versions used in Latin American populations. In addition, the Mobility Assessment Tool can detect mobility differences related to environmental features that cannot be captured by objective performance measures.

Multicenter Study
Identifying common characteristics of frailty across seven scales.
To determine whether commonly used frailty scales exhibit shared characteristics when applied to a representative sample of middle-aged and older Europeans. ⋯ On each frailty scale, frailty score increased nonlinearly with age, mortality risk increased with frailty score, and women had higher scores than men but demonstrated better survival. Each scale except the frailty phenotype demonstrated an upper limit to frailty below the scale's theoretical maximum. Across commonly used frailty scales, these characteristics are common in nature but differ in magnitude.

Multicenter Study Observational Study[Adaptation and validation of CAMDEX-DS (Cambridge Examination for Mental Disorders of Older People with Down's Syndrome and others with intellectual disabilities) in Spanish population with intellectual disabilities].
Dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease commonly affects the adult population with Down's syndrome. This population presents two characteristic clinical features: a semiologic pattern that differs from the typical Alzheimer's disease, and previous intellectual deficits that may confound the clinical diagnosis. There is a clear need to validate specific instruments adapted to Spanish population. ⋯ The Spanish version of CAMDEX-DS is a valid instrument with high applicability for people with intellectual disability. It shows good psychometric properties. The Cambridge Cognitive Examination for Older Adults with Down's Syndrome (CAMCOG-DS) can set two key points by the level of intellectual disability on the suspicion of cognitive impairment in people with Down's syndrome.
