Does Time of Wound Complication after Cesarean Delivery Differ by Type of Skin Closure?
A high proportion of postcesarean wound complications occur after patients have been discharged from the hospital, increasing personal and health care costs. We undertook this study to evaluate the association between skin closure methods (suture vs. staple) following a cesarean delivery and the frequency of wound complications occurring after hospital discharge. ⋯ Although suture closure compared with staples was associated with fewer wound complications after cesarean delivery, we found no significant differences between closure types in the frequency of wound complications occurring after hospital discharge.

Randomized Controlled TrialAdductor canal block with a suture-method catheter - A parallel or perpendicular approach?
We performed a randomised blinded pilot study in 16 healthy volunteers to assess whether placing a suture-method catheter in the adductor canal is feasible with two different insertion techniques. ⋯ The suture-method catheter can be placed in the adductor canal with high success rates for initial placement with both techniques.

To compare outcomes of efficiency, safety, patient, and surgeon satisfaction between absorbable subcuticular staples and subcuticular suture for caesarean section skin closure. ⋯ Absorbable subcuticular staples associated with a similar total operative time compared with suture.

Randomized clinical trial of stapler hepatectomy versus LigaSure™ transection in elective hepatic resection.
Previous studies have demonstrated stapler hepatectomy and use of various energy devices to be safe alternatives to the clamp-crushing technique in elective hepatic resection. In this randomized trial, the effectiveness and safety of stapler hepatectomy were compared with those of parenchymal transection with the LigaSure™ vessel sealing system. ⋯ Stapler hepatectomy was associated with reduced blood loss and a shorter duration of operation than the LigaSure™ device for parenchymal transection in elective partial hepatectomy. Comparison of intraoperative handling and wound healing between (NEOSORB® plus) and coated polyglactin 910 suture (NEOSORB®): a prospective, single-blind, randomized controlled trial.
Coated polyglactin 910 suture with chlorhexidine (NEOSORB® Plus) has recently been developed to imbue the parent suture with antibacterial activity against organisms that commonly cause surgical site infections (SSI). This prospective, single-blinded, randomized trial, was performed to compare the intraoperative handling and wound healing characteristics of NEOSORB® Plus with those of the traditional polyglactin 910 suture (NEOSORB®) in urologic surgery patients. ⋯ NEOSORB® Plus is not inferior to traditional sutures in terms of intraoperative handling and wound healing, potentially making NEOSORB® Plus a beneficial alternative for patients at increased risk of SSI.
