The Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) is a 9-point scaling system used to categorise the frailty of patients. The CFS is well-established as a prognostic tool for decision-making within healthcare settings. However, the relationship between the CFS as a predictor for orthopaedic outcomes is limited. This review aims to provide an overview of the efficacy of the CFS as a prognostic tool for predicting orthopaedic outcomes. ⋯ Higher CFS scores are associated with poorer orthopaedic outcomes. However, it is difficult to quantify the true impact due to the limited number of high-quality studies. Further work to characterise the relationship between both gross and functional outcomes associated with the utilisation of the CFS in orthopaedic settings is essential to ascertain the utility of this simple score to improve resource allocation and provide effective consent to patients.

Review Meta AnalysisRole of Frailty Status in Prediction of Clinical Outcomes of Traumatic Spinal Injury: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Although many frailty tools have been used to predict traumatic spinal injury (TSI) outcomes, identifying predictors of outcomes after TSI in the aged population is difficult. Frailty, age, and TSI association are interesting topics of discussion in geriatric literature. However, the association between these variables are yet to be clearly elucidated. ⋯ However, no significant relationship was found between frailty and LoS (pooled OR: 3.02 [0.86; 10.60]). Heterogeneity was observed across multiple factors, including age, injury level, frailty assessment tool, and spinal cord injury characteristics. In conclusion, although there is limited data concerning using frailty scales to predict short-term outcomes after TSI, the results showed that frailty status may be a predictor of in-hospital mortality, AEs, and unfavorable discharge destination.

While blunt cerebrovascular injury (BCVI) is a rare complication of blunt trauma, it is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. In the pediatric population, unique anatomy and development require screening criteria that accurately diagnose these injuries while limiting unwarranted radiation. ⋯ Level III, Systematic Review.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is an occupational health hazard of military service. Few studies have examined differences in military occupational categories (MOC) which take into consideration the physical demands and job requirements across occupational groups. ⋯ A strength of this analysis is the breakdown of MOC associations with TBI stratified by enlisted and officer ranks, which has been previously unreported. Given the significantly increased odds of service-related TBI reporting within enlisted ranks, further exploration into the location (deployed versus non-deployed) and mechanism (e.g., blast, training, sports, etc.) for these injuries is needed. Understanding injury patterns within these military occupations is necessary to increase TBI identification, treatment, and foremost, prevention. Results highlight the importance of examining specific occupational categories rather than relying on gross categorizations, which do not account for shared knowledge, skills, and abilities within occupations. The quantification of risk among enlisted MOCs suggests a need for further research into the causes of TBI.
