Finding the niche: An interprofessional approach to defining oritavancin use criteria in the emergency department.
Cellulitis is commonly treated in the emergency department (ED). Oritavancin is a novel, broad-spectrum antibiotic which provides an entire treatment course for cellulitis with one dose. However, optimal ED prescribing scenarios for oritavancin have not been well defined. The purpose of this study was to identify a population of ED patients with cellulitis who would be most appropriate to receive oritavancin. ⋯ Oritavancin is an outpatient treatment alternative for cellulitis patients whose only justification for planned admission is the presence of one or more risk factors for treatment failure.

Identification of Senior At Risk scale predicts 30-day mortality among older patients with acute heart failure.
To assess the value of frailty screening tool (Identification of Senior at Risk [ISAR]) in predicting 30-day mortality risk in older patients attended in emergency department (ED) for acute heart failure (AHF). ⋯ scale is a brief and easy tool that should be considered for frailty screening during initial assessment of older patients attended with AHF for predicting 30-day mortality.

Initial focused assessment with sonography in trauma versus initial CT for patients with haemodynamically stable torso trauma.
Focused assessment with sonography in trauma (FAST) examination is a widely known initial evaluation for patients with trauma. However, it remains unclear whether FAST contributes to patient survival in patients with haemodynamically stable trauma. In this study, we compared in-hospital mortality and length of stay between patients undergoing initial FAST vs initial CT for haemodynamically stable torso trauma. ⋯ In-hospital mortality was not significantly different between the initial FAST and initial CT groups for patients with haemodynamically stable torso trauma. Initial CT should be considered in patients with haemodynamically stable torso trauma.

Multicenter StudyCharacteristics of hospitalizations among patients receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors at a community teaching hospital.
As immune checkpoint inhibitors continue to acquire new indications, it is important to understand the impact their use has on patients. This study adds to current literature by presenting an analysis of hospitalizations in this population. The primary objective was to assess the reasons for an emergency department visit or hospital admission in patients who receive immune checkpoint inhibitors. Secondary objectives included identifying the frequency of suspected or confirmed immune related adverse events, types of immune related adverse events, number of preventable admissions, duration of immunotherapy, and length of stay. ⋯ Reasons for admission in the study population were comparable to those identified in the general cancer population, with immune related adverse events being associated with a minority of both total and potentially preventable admissions.
