Hypothalamic invasion in pediatric patients with craniopharyngioma negatively influences clinical outcomes. It has been shown that radiologic classification of hypothalamic invasion can effectively predict surgical strategies to minimize postoperative comorbidities in pediatric patients. However, no comparative analysis has been performed in adult patients with craniopharyngioma. This study implements the previously established radiologic classification to characterize postoperative morbidity, surgical outcome, and distress in adult patients with craniopharyngioma. ⋯ Our results point toward a possible predictive role of preoperative hypothalamic invasion for postoperative diabetes insipidus as well as higher perceived levels of distress after surgery, which may be established in larger patient cohorts. Furthermore, a subfrontal surgical approach seems to be predicted by tumors with hypothalamic invasion. In this case, preoperative magnetic resonance imaging grading may help guide the planning of an optimal surgical strategy for adults with craniopharyngioma to reduce postoperative morbidity.

Anterior inferior cerebellar artery (AICA) aneurysms present a challenge for neurosurgeons and neurointerventionalists alike. ⋯ Careful evaluation of preoperative parameters is paramount in deciding between a surgical or a neuroendovascular approach. Low-profile stents in the future may assist in direct flow diversion of AICA trunk aneurysms. In addition, neurosurgeons need to be well versed in endovascular approaches.

Diagnostic Ultrasound: On-Site Diagnosis of Type B Aortic Dissection During Cataract Surgery.
We report a case of aortic dissection occurring during cataract surgery under local anesthesia, which was diagnosed on-site by point-of-care ultrasound. Intimal flaps were detected in the abdominal aorta, whereas the parasternal view showed no abnormalities in the aortic root or left ventricular function. ⋯ Subsequent computed tomography (CT) confirmed the point-of-care diagnosis. The patient was transferred to a tertiary hospital for medical treatment.

Breast cancer is the leading cancer in women globally. Despite decreasing mortality rates, largely due to early detection and modern treatment, the effectiveness of screening on long-term survival outcomes remains unclear. ⋯ The study underscores the importance of extended follow-up periods in evaluating the outcomes of breast cancer screening programs. While the screening program may not significantly enhance overall survival rates, it has demonstrated a reduction in the mastectomy rate and could potentially extend periods of disease-free survival. These findings contribute to the ongoing discourse about the long-term benefits of breast cancer screening programs.
