The aim of this study was to retrospectively analyze the clinical data of 16 patients with cavernous sinus cholesteatomas, explore the surgical outcomes, and summarize the surgical experience. ⋯ Using "double-scope" technique, the subtemporal approach, a surgical strategy for cavernous sinus cholesteatomas, was sufficient to completely resect the tumors.

Cervical Spondylotic Amyotrophy Initially Misdiagnosed as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
A 63-year-old man diagnosed with mixed-type cervical spondylotic amyotrophy exhibited severe atrophy in the right biceps brachii, teres major, and intrinsic hand muscles, resulting in level 3 muscle weakness. Magnetic resonance imaging showed symmetrical high signal, also referred to as the snake eye sign. ⋯ At present, his right upper limb muscles display minimal atrophy compared with the left, with muscle strength nearing level 4, which is considered normal. We believe that prompt surgical intervention on diagnosis of cervical spondylotic amyotrophy, along with comprehensive postsurgery rehabilitation, can halt further deterioration of the condition and accelerate recovery.

Pulmonary fibrosis is an important factor affecting the prognosis of severe septic patients with acute lung injury. The objective of this study was to explore the effect of norepinephrine (NE) and α 2 -adrenoreceptor (AR) on sepsis-associated pulmonary fibrosis and the mechanism underlying these effects. We found pulmonary fibrotic changes, and increased NE production and α 2A -AR expression in the pulmonary tissue of mice subjected to cecal ligation and puncture surgery. ⋯ Clonidine showed the opposite effect to yohimbine, which aggravated LPS-induced pulmonary fibrosis. These findings demonstrated that the sepsis-induced increase in NE promoted fibroblast differentiation via activating α 2 -AR. Blockage of α 2 -AR effectively ameliorated sepsis-associated pulmonary fibrosis by abolishing NE-induced lung fibroblast differentiation and inhibiting the PKC-p38-Smad2/3 pathway.
