Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a rare but serious complication of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection. Features of MIS-C overlap with those of Kawasaki disease (KD). ⋯ A diagnostic prediction model utilizing admission information provides excellent discrimination between MIS-C and KD. This model may be useful for diagnosis of MIS-C but requires external validation.

To reveal disease or to promote function - that is the question.
Medicine faces challenges that indicate that it may not be sustainable. A descriptive disease concept is apt to what philosopher of science Ian Hacking called "looping effects", which can explain why health care is faced with insatiable demands. ⋯ They are often interactive identities that have attractive properties. We suggest a shift in medical practice where descriptive perspectives are complemented with functional perspectives to enable clinicians better to help people from merging with dysfunctional disease identities.

Although there is some evidence that flood exposure in Bangladesh and other developing countries increases the risk of chronic undernutrition in children, the underlying mechanisms are, to our knowledge, unknown. The objectives of this research are to examine the association between recurrent flood exposure and the likelihood of chronic undernutrition in children and to investigate the mediators of this association. ⋯ Flood exposure was found associated with the likelihood of child chronic undernutrition, and this relationship was mediated through lack of having a separate kitchen, history of diarrhea, insufficient vaccination, use of unclean cooking fuel, and poor minimum dietary diversity. Interventions to reduce the prevalence of these risk factors could contribute to reducing the disparities in child undernourishment brought on by exposure to flooding.

Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are at increased risk after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). ⋯ We observed higher rates of TLF in IBD patients compared to the general population as well as differences in clinical outcomes between UC and CD patients. A better understanding of the prognostic factors and pathophysiology of these differences may have clinical importance in tailoring the appropriate treatment or type of revascularization for this high-risk group.
