Observational studies have reported some associations between thyroid disease and gout, but the causal relationship between the 2 is not clear. We used Mendelian randomization (MR) Analysis to investigate the causal association between some thyroid diseases (autoimmune hypothyroidism, autoimmune hyperthyroidism, thyroid nodules, and thyroid cancer) and gout. GWAS data were used for analysis. ⋯ Cochran Q test MR-PRESSO and MR-Egger intercept analysis were used to detect heterogeneity and multi directivity. Autoimmune hypothyroidism has a causal effect on gout, IVW results show (OR = 1.13, 95% CI = 1.03-1.21, PFDR = 0.0336); Autoimmune hyperthyroidism has a causal effect on gout, IVW results show (OR = 1.07, 95% CI = 1.01-1.12, PFDR = 0.0314); Thyroid cancer has no causal effect on gout, IVW results show (OR = 1.03, 95% CI = 0.98-1.09, PFDR = 0.297); Thyroid nodules has no causal effect on gout, IVW results show (OR = 1.03, 95% CI = 0.98-1.08, PFDR = 0.225); Reverse MR Studies show that gout have no causal effect on the above thyroid diseases. Autoimmune hypothyroidism and autoimmune hyperthyroidism increase the risk of gout.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. NDUFAL42 is an important mitochondrial respiratory chain subunit that plays a critical role in cellular energy metabolism. However, the role of NDUFA4L2 in CRC remains unclear. ⋯ High NDUFA4L2 expression predicted a poorer Overall-survival (P = .021), poorer progression-free interval (P = .001), and poorer Disease Specific Survival (P = .002). GO, KEGG, GSEA and immune infiltration analysis showed that NDUFA4L2 expression was correlated with regulating the function of DNA and some types of immune infiltrating cells. NDUFA4L2 expression was significantly correlated with poor survival and immune infiltrations in CRC, and it may be a promising prognostic biomarker in CRC.

Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis is a benign, inflammatory disease of breasts characterized by non-caseating granulomas. Our study aims to identify distinguishing clinical and histopathological features of relapsing disease compared to those in complete remission. We queried databases at our institution (1990-2021) to include females ≥18 years with biopsy-proven diagnosis of idiopathic granulomatous mastitis, excluding patients with breast cancer, lymphoproliferative disorders, solid organ malignancy, foreign body reaction in breast, plasma cell mastitis, and ductal ectasia. ⋯ Three (33%) patients with relapse and 14 (77%) with remission, had abscess formation confirmed on histopathology (P = .04). Patients with remission had a higher number of abscesses on histopathology and history of oral contraceptive use was associated with more relapse. By identifying key clinical and histopathological findings in this population may guide prognosis and treatment of these patients.

Among U.S. military active duty service members, cervicalgia, cervical radiculopathy, and myelopathy are common causes of disability, effecting job performance and readiness, often leading to medical separation from the military. Among surgical therapies, anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) are options in select cases; however, elective surgeries performed while serving overseas (OCONUS) have not been studied. ⋯ Both ACDF and CDA are effective and safe surgical procedures for active duty patients with cervicalgia, cervical radiculopathy, and cervical myelopathy. They can be performed OCONUS with minimal interruption to the patient, their family, and the military unit, while helping to maintain surgical readiness for the surgeon and the military treatment facility.

Chronic kidney diseases (CKD) is an important public health issue worldwide, and diabetes mellitus is the main cause of CKD. Having sufficient disease knowledge and good self-care behavior both help to prevent the progression of diabetes mellitus and CKD. This cross-sectional study enrolled 181 type 2 diabetic patients with CKD from July 2017 to October 2017. ⋯ The relationship between young age and high scores of disease knowledge was found (P = .001); however, old age was significantly associated with high scores of overall self-care behavior (P < .001) while additionally, married patients had high scores of regular medication behavior (P = .03). Our findings identified the significant factors correlated with disease knowledge and self-care behavior in type 2 diabetic patients with CKD. Healthcare givers should establish personalized health education plans to improve perceived disease knowledge and self-care behavior.
