Meta Analysis
Risk of adverse reactions associated with inhaled corticosteroids for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: A meta-analysis.
In the majority of current therapeutic regimens for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchodilators are coupled with inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) to lower the inflammatory response and improve symptoms. This study aims to evaluate the safety of ICS in the treatment of COPD. ⋯ ICS does not increase the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with COPD, but it does increase the risk of URTI, pneumonia, oral Candida infections, and musculoskeletal disorders in patients with COPD.

Zhishi Xiebai Guizhi Decoction for coronary heart disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a type of cardiovascular disease (CVD) caused by coronary atherosclerosis. It is a main cause of medical burden and cardiovascular related death. Zhishi Xiebai Guizhi Decoction (ZXGD) is a representative prescription of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the treatment of CHD, but there is poor systemically evidence-based appraisal. ⋯ ZXGD is effective and safe in the treatment of CHD. However, more rigorous and high-quality RCTs are needed to verify the conclusion.

Dry eye syndrome is an ocular surface disease with high incidence. Acupuncture combined with artificial tears is effective for treating dry eye syndrome. This study aimed to evaluate the evidence for the efficacy of acupuncture combined with artificial tears in dry eye syndrome by conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis. ⋯ The results of this study indicated that acupuncture combined with artificial tears could be considered safe, effective to patients with DES.

Meta-analysis of the efficacy of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy for stage IB non-small cell lung cancer.
Many clinical trials have shown that postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy can provide a survival benefit for patients with stage IB non-small cell lung cancer. However, whether adjuvant chemotherapy should be routinely given after surgery remains controversial. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis to investigate the efficacy of adjuvant chemotherapy versus surgery alone for stage IB non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). ⋯ Receiving postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy improved people's survival and prolonged disease-free survival and recurrence-free survival in patients with stage IB non-small cell lung cancer compared with surgery alone.

The gut microbiota-dependent metabolite trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) has recently been recognized to be one of the risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, there is a scarcity of data on the relationship between circulating TMAO levels and hypertension in patients with CVD. Meta analysis and a dose-response relationship were used in this study to assess the relationship between circulating trimethylamine N-oxide levels and the risk of hypertension in patients with CVD. ⋯ In patients with CVD, the level of circulating TMAO is significantly related to the risk of hypertension. The risk of hypertension increased by 1.014% for every 1 μ mol/L increase in circulating TMAO levels.
