Multicenter Study Observational Study
Clinical and chest computed tomography features associated with severe Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia diagnosed by metagenomic next-generation sequencing: A multicenter, retrospective, observational study.
Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia is a rare disease with varying clinical presentations. Here, we aimed to investigate the clinical and chest computed tomography (CT) features of severe psittacosis pneumonia. Clinical data of 35 patients diagnosed with psittacosis pneumonia were retrospectively analyzed using metagenomic next-generation sequencing. ⋯ One patient died of multiple organ failure, whereas the condition of the other 34 patients improved, and they were discharged from the hospital. Patients with severe psittacosis pneumonia often have underlying comorbidities and are prone to developing dyspnea, consciousness disorder, and lesions in both lungs. Serum D-dimer, IL-2, IL-6, and IL-10 levels and lymphocyte, CD3 + T cell, and CD4 + T cell counts are associated with disease severity.

Alzheimer disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia worldwide. Despite the publication of numerous systematic reviews and meta-analyses that have summarized the evidence associated with pharmacotherapies (PTs) and non-pharmacotherapies (NPTs) for the wide range of interventions available for AD treatment, their comparative safety and efficacy remains insufficiently defined. ⋯ We will determine the most efficacious treatment strategies for AD patients from the most highly ranked treatments. These results will help to guide clinical decision-making and improve patient care.

Alzheimer disease (AD) is a common cause of dementia, and there are still a lack of treatment options to reverse or prevent disease progression. Existing evidence shows that acupuncture has advantages in the treatment of AD, but whether the efficacy of acupuncture belongs to the placebo effect remains controversial, and there is no strict systematic review and network meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture combined with Western medicine in the treatment of AD. ⋯ This study will evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture combined with Western medicine in improving cognitive function and activities of daily living in AD patients. The results of this study will verify whether the efficacy of acupuncture in the treatment of AD belongs to the placebo effect, which will also provide a reference for the clinical use of acupuncture combined with Western medicine in the treatment of AD.

Early identification of patients at risk for severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is crucial for appropriate triage and determination of need for closer monitoring. Few studies have examined laboratory trends in COVID-19 infection and sought to quantify the degree to which laboratory values affect mortality. We conducted a retrospective cohort (n = 407) study of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 early in the course of the pandemic, from March 16th to April 8th, 2020 and compared baseline to repeat laboratory testing 72 hours into admission. ⋯ We found that rises of 25 mg/L C-reactive protein, 50 units/L lactate dehydrogenase, and 100 ng/mL ferritin were associated with 23%, 28%, and 1% increased odds of death, respectively. In contrast, changes in fibrinogen, D-dimer, white blood cell count, and creatinine in the first few days of hospital admission were not associated with mortality. These quantitative findings may assist clinicians in determining the risk of potential clinical decline in patients with COVID-19 and influence early management.

The cervical facet has complicated 3D microstructures and inhomogeneities. The cervical facet joint, which also participates in the formation, plays a certain role in regulating and limiting the movement of the spine. Correct identification and evaluation of its microstructure can help in the diagnosis of orthopedic disease and predict early phases of fracture risk. ⋯ The degree of anisotropy value was significantly smaller for C3 than for C6 and C7 (P < .05). The changes in the C3 to C7 microstructure were summarized in this study. The loading capacity and stress of the C7 articular process tended to be limited, and the risk of injury tended to be higher for the C7 articular process.
