Multicenter Study
Safety and efficacy of capsule endoscopy for patients with newly diagnosed Crohn's disease: A multicenter retrospective study.
Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory disease that develops at a young age and frequently leads to intestinal resection. Capsule endoscopy (CE) can directly and non-invasively inspect the entire small bowel mucosa. We suspected that CE could be a good diagnostic tool for detecting CD in young patients. ⋯ The frequency of longitudinal ulcers and cobblestones in the upper small intestine was significantly higher in younger patients (≤20 years). Moreover, positive findings in the upper small intestine were predominantly observed in younger patients (≤20 years). CE for patients with newly diagnosed CD was safe and useful, especially for the detection of upper small bowel lesions in young patients.

The morbidity and mortality of coronary heart disease (CHD) has remained high, which greatly increases people's economic burden. Several studies have showed that Tiaogan formula (TGF), as a kind of Chinese herbal medicine, was of benefit to relieving angina pectoris symptoms and improving the quality of life for CHD patients. However, the intensity of evidence has been poor, limiting the further clinical application of TGF to CHD. This systematic review and meta-analysis will assess the effectiveness and safety of studies of TGF in CHD patients. ⋯ This study will provide a high-quality synthesis of the effects and safety of Tiaogan formula in the treatment of CHD patients.

Atopic eczema (AE) is a chronic relapsing dermatological disease characterized by pruritus, dryness, erythema, and lichenification. Acupuncture as an alternative treatment can relieve symptoms, reduce the recurrence, and improve the quality of life (QoL) with less adverse reactions in treating AE. This network meta-analysis (NMA) will comprehensively access the efficacy and safety of different acupuncture therapies for patients with AE, and rank the different acupuncture therapies, in order to present evidence-based medicine evidence for clinical application extensively. ⋯ PROSPERO CRD42020203437.

Cardiovascular injuries induced by SARS CoV-2 have been reported repeatedly in various studies. Therefore, it is necessary to understand cardiac complications at a low cost, quickly. This study aimed to determine the relationship between cardiological parameters and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in patients with coronavirus infection. : Patients who were admitted to the emergency department due to the ongoing pandemic, all patients with similar symptoms to coronavirus disease 2019 infection were initially admitted to the respiratory emergency room and underwent subsequent evaluations to confirm or rule out SARS-COV2 infection symptoms were assessed for eligibility. ⋯ PCR positivity did not result in positive troponin and BNP and did not appear to decrease EF. In other words, serial troponin and BNP checks and initial echocardiography in coronavirus disease 2019 respiratory emergencies do not make significant differences in diagnostic and therapeutic management and inpatient outcomes of patients with positive or negative PCR and are not specific findings. Evidence suggests some coronavirus-induced cardiac complications will be manifested in the long term.

Bardet-Biedl Syndrome (BBS) is an autosomal recessive systemic disorder characterized by retinitis pigmentosa, polydactyly, obesity, intellectual disability, renal impairments, and hypogonadism. The purpose of this study was to determine the ocular characteristics of a boy with BBS caused by a novel homozygous variant in the ARL6 (alternative named BBS3) gene who had been originally diagnosed with retinitis punctata albescens. ⋯ In children with night blindness and progressive visual dysfunction, it is important for ophthalmologists to consult clinical geneticists and pediatricians to rule out the possibility of systemic diseases such as BBS.
