Multicenter StudyClinical Outcomes After Tracheostomy in Children With Single Ventricle Physiology: Collaborative Research From the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society Multicenter Cohort, 2010-2021.
Multicenter studies reporting outcomes following tracheostomy in children with congenital heart disease are limited, particularly in patients with single ventricle physiology. We aimed to describe clinical characteristics and outcomes in a multicenter cohort of patients with single ventricle physiology who underwent tracheostomy before Fontan operation. ⋯ For children with single ventricle physiology who undergo tracheostomy, mortality risk is high and should be carefully considered when discussing tracheostomy as an option for these children. Favorable outcomes are possible, although thoughtful attention to patient selection and tracheostomy timing are likely necessary to achieve this goal.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyComparing Leadership Skills of Senior Emergency Medicine Residents in 3-Year Versus 4-Year Programs During Simulated Pediatric Resuscitation: A Pilot Study.
The majority of pediatric patients in the United States (US) are evaluated and treated at general emergency departments. It is possible that discrepancies in length of emergency medicine (EM) residency training may allow for variable exposure to pediatric patients, critical resuscitations, and didactic events. The goal of this pilot study was to compare leadership skills of graduating EM residents from 3- to 4-year programs during simulated pediatric resuscitations using a previously validated leadership assessment tool, the Concise Assessment of Leader Management (CALM). ⋯ These data show feasibility for a larger cohort project and, while not statistically significant, suggest no difference in leadership skills between 3 rd - and 4 th -year EM residents in our study cohort. This pilot study provides the basis of future work that will assess a larger multicenter cohort with the hope to obtain a more generalizable dataset.

Multicenter StudySurgical Specialty Consultation for Pediatric Facial Laceration Repair: An American and Canadian Survey.
We sought to describe patterns of and indications for surgical specialty consultation for facial laceration repair in pediatric emergency departments (PEDs). ⋯ Surgical specialty usage in the management of patients who present with facial lacerations to PEDs has significant variation related to patient, provider, and department-level factors that influence the decision to consult. Lack of consult guidelines represent a potential opportunity to standardize care delivery to this common presentation.

Macrophage-Stimulating 1 Polymorphism rs3197999 in Pediatric Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
Background and Objectives: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which includes Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), often necessitates long-term treatment and hospitalizations and also may require surgery. The macrophage-stimulating 1 (MST1) rs3197999 polymorphism is strongly associated with the risk of IBD but its exact clinical correlates remain under investigation. We aimed to characterize the relationships between the MST1 rs3197999 genotype and the clinical characteristics in children and adolescents with IBD within a multi-center cross-sectional study. ⋯ The TT genotype was associated with higher C-reactive protein upon diagnosis (p = 0.023; CC: 4.3 mg/dL [0.7-21.8], CT 5.3 mg/dL [1.3-17.9], TT 12.2 mg/dL [3.0-32.9]). Conclusions: This study identified links between MST1 rs3197999 and the clinical characteristics of pediatric IBD: height Z-score and CRP. Further studies of the associations between genetics and the course of IBD are still warranted, with a focus on more extensive phenotyping.

Neurological manifestations of SARS-CoV-2 infection in children in Taiwan: A cross-section, multicenter study.
The SARS-CoV-2 virus has been a global public health threat since December 2019. This study aims to investigate the neurological characteristics and risk factors of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwanese children, using data from a collaborative registry. ⋯ Neurological complications are common in pediatric COVID-19. Visual hallucination, seizure, behavior change, myoclonic jerk, decreased GCS, and hypoglycemia at admission are the most important warning signs of severe neurological involvement such as encephalitis/ADEM.
