Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyParent Views on Parent & Child-reported Outcomes in Pediatric Advanced Cancer: A Qualitative Study.
Research on concurrent parent and patient-reported outcomes has primarily focused on reaching agreement. However, little is known about how to interpret and address discrepancies, which are not uncommon, between both viewpoints. ⋯ gov NCT03408314.

Tranexamic Acid in Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury: A Multicenter Retrospective Observational Study.
Tranexamic acid (TXA) can be used after trauma to prevent bleeding. Our goal was to examine the influence of TXA on morbidity and mortality for children with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). ⋯ TXA administration was not associated with either death or poor neurologic outcome. Prospective clinical trials of TXA usage in children with severe TBI are needed.

Multicenter StudyAwake Supraglottic Airway Placement in Pediatric Patients for Airway Obstruction or Difficult Intubation: Insights From an International Airway Registry (PeDI).
Small case series have described awake supraglottic airway placement in infants with significant airway obstruction and difficult intubations. We conducted this study to determine outcomes when supraglottic airways were placed in awake children enrolled in the international Pediatric Difficult Intubation Registry including success of ventilation, success of tracheal intubation, and complications. ⋯ Although infrequently attempted, awake placement of a supraglottic airway in children with difficult airways achieved adequate ventilation and provided a conduit for oxygenation and ventilation after induction of anesthesia across a spectrum of ages.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyMechanical Thromboprophylaxis and Hospital-Acquired Venous Thromboembolism Among Critically Ill Adolescents: A U.S. Pediatric Health Information Systems Registry Study, 2016-2023.
To estimate the rate of mechanical thromboprophylaxis (mTP) prescription among critically ill adolescents using a multicenter administrative database and determine whether mTP prescription is inversely associated with hospital-acquired venous thromboembolism. ⋯ In the multicenter PHIS cohort, 2016-2023, the prescribing patterns for mTP among critically ill adolescents showed a low rate of mTP prescription (19.6%) that varied widely across institutions, decreased annually over the study period by 1.6%/year, and was not independently associated with HA-VTE risk reduction.

Multicenter StudyThe Impact of COVID-19 on Patterns of Fractures Presenting to Pediatric Emergency Departments.
To examine differences in pediatric fracture prevalence, severity, and mechanisms of injury before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. ⋯ Despite a decrease in fracture-related visits to urban pediatric EDs during the early COVID-19 pandemic, there was an increase in the proportion of ED visits for children younger than 5 years and higher severity injuries. These findings highlight injury epidemiology pattern shifts that occurred during the pandemic. Identifying higher-risk populations for fracture may help guide targeted education and prevention efforts.
