Epidemiology of paediatric intensive care unit admissions, deaths and organ donation candidacy: A single-centre audit.
There are limited reports on the epidemiology of paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admissions, deaths and organ donation candidacy. We aimed to describe PICU admission characteristics and outcomes, determine risk factors for mortality, and perform an independent assessment of missed organ donation opportunities. ⋯ In this single-centre audit, comorbidities, PIM 3 score and functional impairment were associated with mortality. Efforts are needed to improve paediatric organ donation rates.

Physical Activity Monitoring in Children in the 1-Year After 3 or More Days of Invasive Ventilation: Feasibility of Using Accelerometers.
To measure physical activity in a cohort of children who survived greater than or equal to 3 days of invasive ventilation. ⋯ In the 1-year after PICU discharge measuring physical activity with accelerometers in children 2-17 years old is feasible. Furthermore, demonstration of variable recovery trajectories in our pilot cohort suggests it has potential to be an outcome measure in clinical trials.

To investigate the treatment effect and prognosis of posterior fossa epidural hematoma in children by different surgical methods. ⋯ The effect of minimally invasive skull trepanation and drainage in the treatment of posterior fossa epidural hematoma in children is similar to that of craniotomy hematoma removal, but the operation is simpler, less trauma, less intraoperative bleeding, and short operation time, which is worthy of clinical application.

Association of General Anesthesia for Cesarean Delivery with Postpartum Depression and Suicidality.
Compared to neuraxial anesthesia, general anesthesia (GA) for cesarean delivery is associated with an increased risk of postpartum depression (PPD) requiring hospitalization. However, obstetric complications occurring during childbirth (eg, stillbirth) are associated with both increased use of GA and increased risk of PPD, and may account for the reported association between GA and PPD. This study assessed the association of GA for cesarean delivery with PPD requiring hospitalization, outpatient visit, or emergency department (ED) visit, accounting for obstetric complications. ⋯ Use of GA for cesarean delivery is independently associated with a significantly increased risk of PPD requiring hospitalization and suicidality. It underscores the need to avoid using GA whenever appropriate and to address the potential mental health issues of patients after GA use, specifically by screening for PPD and providing referrals to accessible mental health providers as needed.
