Review Meta Analysis
Systematic review and meta-analysis of the prevalence of chronic pain among patients with opioid use disorder and receiving opioid substitution therapy.
To assess studies examining the prevalence of chronic pain (CP) in patients treated with Opioid Substitution Treatment (OST - buprenorphine or methadone) for Opioid Used Disorder (OUD), we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature between the years 2000 and 2020. We searched EMBASE, PsycINFO, Cochrane, and MEDLINE databases and included studies assessing the prevalence of CP in OUD adults treated with OST. The studies were assessed for risk of bias and overall quality and the results were pooled using a random-effects model. ⋯ PERSPECTIVE: Our meta-analysis provided an estimate of CP prevalence, reaching almost 50% of OUD patients with OST. Thus, the urgent challenge in OST patients is to pay systematic attention to chronic pain diagnosis, along with the implementation of a multidisciplinary patient-focused approach for an appropriate management of CP. Phantom limb pain (PLP) is a common type of chronic pain that occurs after limb amputation. Many treatment approaches are available; however, the treatment of PLP is still a challenge. This study aimed to quantify and rank the efficacy of interventions for phantom limb pain. ⋯ Our results suggest that MT is the most optimal treatment for PLP, and a combination of therapies would enhance the therapeutic effect.

Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) can reduce the need for opioids; however, the influence on the full spectrum of pain medication is less known. The aims of this study were to explore general prescription practices for patients scheduled for SCS, potential differences in prescriptions between Belgium and United Kingdom, and the influence of SCS on pain medication. ⋯ Our combined analysis revealed differences in prescription practice in patients scheduled for SCS implantation between Belgium and United Kingdom. NSAIDs and neuropathic mood agents are more frequently used in the United Kingdom, presumably due to easier access to repeat prescriptions and over the counter medications. After three months of SCS, a decrease in medication use is observed in both countries, with higher reductions in Belgium, presumably due to strict regulations concerning reimbursement criteria.

Acupuncture for Chronic Prostatitis or Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome: An Updated Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) is a complex male dysfunction, mostly seen in young and middle-aged men with a history of more than 3 months. As a traditional therapy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture has been proven an effective method to treat CP/CPPS in recent years. Though some meta-analyses on acupuncture for chronic prostatitis were published in 2018 and 2019, most of the included studies were low in quality according to the JADAD score (JADAD < 4). The conclusions of acupuncture for CP/CPPS remain indefinite. ⋯ This meta-analysis indicated that acupuncture has measurable benefits on CP/CPPS, and security has also been ensured. However, this meta-analysis only included 10 RCTs; thus, RCTs with a larger sample size and longer-term observation are required to verify the effectiveness of acupuncture further in the future.

Exercise-induced hypoalgesic effects of different types of physical exercise in individuals with neck pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
To evaluate the exercise-induced hypoalgesic (EIH) effects of different types of physical exercise in individuals with neck pain. ⋯ Isometric and ROM exercises exerted hypoalgesia at local and remote sites. A larger EIH effect following submaximal aerobic exercises was exerted at the remote testing site compared with the local site.
