There is a paucity of research and evidence, regarding the effectiveness of applying bipolar pulsed radiofrequency (bPRF) in osteoarthritis of the knee. This study aimed to search for the impact of intra-articular bPRF (IA-bPRF) on pain, functionality, and quality of life in individuals with advanced knee osteoarthritis. A total of 35 patients experiencing knee pain were included in the study. ⋯ No serious adverse events related to the procedure occurred. IA-bPRF use seems to be safe and effective in relieving pain among individuals with advanced knee osteoarthritis. As a result, with further research, we expect that IA-bPRF may be considered for inclusion in upcoming guidelines for the treatment of chronic pain related to osteoarthritis of the knee.

Traditional Chinese herbal compound as complementary treatment for nonspecific low back pain: A randomized controlled trial.
This prospective randomized controlled trial was designed to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Bu Shen Tong Luo herbal compound as a complementary treatment for nonspecific low back pain (NSLBP). ⋯ Both BSTL herbal compound and celecoxib are effective and safe in the clinical treatment of NSLBP, and BSTL herbal compound had unique advantages in the treatment of HSBZ syndrome type of NSLBP especially in waist function improvement.

Comparative evaluation of pain rating scales for dental pain among the Saudi population: A cross-sectional study.
Pain, being a subjective phenomenon, is perceived in different manner by individuals based on various factors including age and gender. Various scales are available in literature to assess and record the pain perceived by an individual. Comparison of commonly used pain perception scales among Saudi Arabian population is scarce. ⋯ A strong positive correlation was found between VAS and WBS score which was found to be statistically significant in both the groups. Both VAS and WBS are reliable tool to record pain perception in both age groups. WBS is found to be easier and more convenient one.

High-frequency, high-intensity TENS compared to standard treatment with opioids for postoperative pain relief after laparoscopic cholecystectomy: A multicentre randomized controlled trial.
Adverse effects of opioids could prolong the duration of stay in the post-anaesthesia care unit (PACU). This study aimed to assess time in the PACU and the pain-relieving effect of high-frequency, high-intensity transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (HFHI TENS) versus standard treatment with intravenous (IV) opioids. ⋯ In this multicentre, RCT time in the PACU and the pain-relieving effect of HFHI TENS was compared to standard treatment with IV opioids. There were no differences between the groups regarding time in the PACU, time to pain relief and side effects but opioid consumption in the HFHI TENS group was significantly lower. Both groups reported high satisfaction with pain treatment and care. In summary, HFHI TENS should be considered a safe, fast-onsetting, opioid-sparing option for postoperative pain relief.

From pain level to pain experience: redefining acute pain assessment to enhance understanding of chronic postsurgical pain.
Chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP) significantly impairs quality of life and poses a substantial healthcare burden, affecting up to a quarter of patients undergoing surgery. Although acute pain is recognised as a predictor for CPSP development, the role of patient experience remains underexplored. This study examines the predictive value of patient experience alongside traditional risk factors for CPSP after orthopaedic surgery. ⋯ This study underscores the role of patient-reported outcomes, specifically the pain experience dimension captured by the EVAN-G scale, in prediction of CPSP 90 days after surgery. It suggests a shift from conventional assessments of pain intensity to a comprehensive understanding of pain experience, advocating for tailored pain management approaches that could reduce chronic pain, thereby improving patient quality of life and functional recovery.
