To investigate the impacts of remimazolam tosilate on gastrointestinal hormones and motility in patients undergoing gastrointestinal endoscopy with sedation. ⋯ Compared with propofol used during gastrointestinal endoscopy with sedation, remimazolam tosilate mildly inhibits the serum motilin and gastrin levels, potentially facilitating the recovery of gastrointestinal motility.

Bolus administration of remimazolam was superior to midazolam for deep sedation in elderly patients undergoing diagnostic bronchoscopy: A randomized, double-blind, controlled trial.
To date, there is no standardized practice for the use of pharmacological sedatives during flexible bronchoscopy, particularly for elderly patients. This exploratory study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of remimazolam at a single induced dose for deep sedation in elderly patients undergoing diagnostic flexible bronchoscopy (DFB), and compare with midazolam, a commonly used sedative. ⋯ Bolus administration of remimazolam offers advantages over midazolam for deep sedation in elderly patients undergoing DFB, in terms of a higher success rate of sedation and a lower incidence of extra sleep within 6 hours after procedure, though the safety profiles of both groups were favorable.

The efficacy and safety of using a combination of rocuronium and sugammadex for awake craniotomy anesthesia: A randomized clinical trial.
Awake craniotomy (AC) is a neurosurgical method for the resection of brain lesions located in eloquent areas to achieve maximal and safe resection. A patient's arousal quality is essential for the success of the operation. This study compared the arousal time and quality after AC achieved by 2 different drug combinations: rocuronium with sugammadex and propofol with remifentanil. ⋯ Using a combination of rocuronium and sugammadex with propofol and remifentanil may shorten the awakening time, reduce the duration of laryngeal mask adjustment, and do not affect the arousal quality and postoperative outcomes for patients undergoing awake craniotomy, compared to propofol and remifentanil alone.

Although remimazolam is used as a general anesthetic in elderly patients due to its hemodynamic stability, the electroencephalogram (EEG) characteristics of remimazolam are not well-known. The purpose of this study was to identify the EEG features of remimazolam-induced unconsciousness in elderly patients and compare them with propofol. ⋯ Both regimens showed a greater decrease in feedback connectivity compared to a decrease in feedforward connectivity after loss of consciousness, leading to a disruption of asymmetry between the frontoparietal connectivity.

Neuropsychological follow-up of isoflurane sedated intensive care patients: a substudy of a randomized trial.
Inhaled sedation of intensive care unit (ICU) patients ventilated >24 hours may have long term effects. We hypothesized that isoflurane has a better neuropsychological outcome in a One-year follow-up compared to propofol sedation. ⋯ Isoflurane sedation leads to more delirium free days during the ICU treatment and more factual memories of the ICU stay one year after the ICU stay. However long-term outcome of ventilated ICU patients is poor, and there were no differences between isoflurane and propofol sedation.
