Extensive research into potential sources of thoracic pain with or without referred pain into the chest wall has demonstrated that thoracic facet joints can be a potential source of pain confirmed by precise, diagnostic blocks.The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to evaluate the effectiveness of medial branch blocks and radiofrequency neurotomy as a therapeutic thoracic facet joint intervention. ⋯ Chronic spinal pain, thoracic facet or zygapophysial joint pain, facet joint nerve blocks, medial branch blocks, controlled comparative local anesthetic blocks, diagnostic accuracy, radiofrequency neurotomy.

Airway nerve blocks for awake tracheal intubation: A meta-analysis of randomized control trials and trial sequential analysis.
This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the superiority of airway nerve blocks versus airway anesthesia without nerve blocks for awake tracheal intubation (ATI). ⋯ Based on current published evidence, airway nerve blocks provide better airway anesthesia quality for ATI with a shorter intubation time, better intubation conditions including higher no reaction to placement of the flexible scope and tracheal tube, lower cough or gag reflex during intubation, higher excellent patient satisfaction, and lower overall complications.

ReviewThe role of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in the management of perioperative peripheral nerve injury: a scoping review of the literature.
Peripheral nerve injury is an uncommon but potentially catastrophic complication of anesthesia and surgery, for which there are limited effective treatment options. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a unique medical intervention which improves tissue oxygen delivery and reduces ischemia via exposure to oxygen at supra-atmospheric partial pressures. While the application of hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been evidenced for other medical conditions involving relative tissue ischemia, its role in the management of peripheral nerve injury remains unclear. ⋯ Existing data suggest that hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a promising intervention in the management of perioperative peripheral nerve injury, in which tissue ischemia is the most common underlying mechanism of injury, neurological deficits are severe, and treatment options are sparse. This positive signal should be further investigated in prospective randomized clinical trials.
