Comparison of analgesic techniques for antler removal in halothane-anaesthetized red deer (Cervus elaphus): electroencephalographic responses.
To provide evidence for an analgesic effect of antler pedicle compression or lidocaine 'ring block' by comparing changes in median and spectral edge frequencies and total electroencephalographic (EEG) power during the application of each technique followed by antler removal. ⋯ Compression of the antler pedicle has been recommended as an alternative to lidocaine 'ring block' for velvet antler removal. The results of this study suggest that antler pedicle compression is noxious. In addition, antler pedicle compression offers less effective analgesia than lidocaine 'ring block'.

Meta Analysis[The neurostimulator for brachial plexus blockade by the axillary approach: a metaanalysis on its efficacy to increase the success rate].
To evaluate the effectiveness of the neurostimulator to improve the success rate of a brachial plexus blockade by the axillary approach. ⋯ This study shows that the neurostimulator improves the success rate of brachial plexus blocks performed by the axillary approach only when three nerves or more are stimulated and its use decreases the incidence of systemic local anaesthetics toxicity.

Neural blocks are commonly used for patients with acute or chronic low back pain. It is important to do correctly technical procedure of neural blocks and more important to be well aware of the indication and clinical value of neural blocks. Neural blocks have two aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic value. In this article, the indication and clinical value of neural blocks were reviewed in trigger point blocks, epidural blocks, selective nerve root blocks, facet blocks and lumbar posterior medial branch blocks.

Using commercial computer graphics software (TrueSpace), we constructed a virtual-reality model for teaching interscalene brachial plexus block. This tool combines the clarity of schematic drawings and the clinical relevance of video clips and live demonstrations. The aim is to accelerate learning and aid retention of relevant information. ⋯ Three-dimensional animation is a promising new tool to accelerate the learning of regional anaesthetic techniques.

Ultrasound-guided musculocutaneous nerve block: a description of a novel technique.
Localizing the musculocutaneous nerve for neural blockade is crucial to providing surgical anesthesia for the distal forearm. We present a novel approach for localizing and anesthetizing the musculocutaneous nerve. ⋯ Ultrasound can facilitate the localization and local anesthetic block of the musculocutaneous nerve.
