Comparison of lidocaine viscous gargle and topical application on laryngeal mask airway in general anesthesia: A randomized clinical trial.
To investigate the effects and safety of lidocaine viscous gargle on postoperative sore throat (POST) in patients receiving a laryngeal mask airway (LMA) in general anesthesia. ⋯ Lidocaine viscous gargle showed no statistically significant difference in incidence of POST and incidence of pharynx dryness compared with topical application of lidocaine on the LMA. Airway management is required during general anaesthesia and is essential for life-threatening conditions such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Evidence from recent trials indicates a high incidence of critical events during airway management, especially in neonates or infants. It is important to define the optimal techniques and strategies for airway management in these groups. ⋯ Use a stylet to reinforce and preshape tracheal tubes when hyperangulated videolaryngoscope blades are used and when the larynx is anatomically anterior (1C). 9. Verify intubation is successful with clinical assessment and end-tidal CO 2 waveform (1C). 10. Apply high-flow nasal oxygenation, continuous positive airway pressure or nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation for postextubation respiratory support, when appropriate (1B).

An analysis of a new rapid difficult airway response team in a vertically built children's hospital.
Intrahospital transport is associated with adverse events. This challenge is amplified during airway management. Although difficult airway response teams have been described, little attention has been paid to patient transport during difficult airway management versus the alternative of managing patient airways without moving the patient. This is especially needed in a 22-floor vertical hospital. ⋯ A rapid difficult airway response team allows a large majority of patients' airways to be managed and secured in the patient's primary hospital location. Future directions include reducing time to airway securement and identifying factors associated with cardiac arrest.

Comparison of intubating conditions with succinylcholine versus rocuronium in the prehospital setting.
Rapid sequence intubation (RSI) is frequently performed by emergency medical services (EMS). We investigated the relationship between succinylcholine and rocuronium use and time until first laryngoscopy attempt, first-pass success, and Cormack-Lehane (CL) grades. ⋯ Prehospital use of either rocuronium or succinylcholine is associated with similar Cormack-Lehane grades, first-pass success rates, and rates of peri-intubation hypoxemia.

The cause of oropharyngeal dysphagia in patients with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) can be multifactorial and may underly limitations in swallowing rehabilitation. ⋯ Prolonged orotracheal intubation and post-COVID-19 neurological alterations increase the probability of dysphagia immediately after extubation. Increased age and tracheostomy limited rehabilitation.
