Analgesic effect of the ultrasound-guided subcostal approach to transmuscular quadratus lumborum block in patients undergoing laparoscopic nephrectomy: a randomized controlled trial.
Quadratus lumborum block (QLB) is an effective analgesia that lowers opioid consumption after lower abdominal and hip surgeries. The subcostal approach to transmuscular QLB is a novel technique that can provide postoperative analgesia by blocking more dermatomes. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and viability of subcostal approach to QLB after laparoscopic nephrectomy. ⋯ The ultrasound-guided subcostal approach to QLB is an effective analgesic technique in patients undergoing laparoscopic nephrectomy as it reduces the consumption of sufentanil postoperatively.

Children and their parents' assessment of postoperative surgical pain: Agree or disagree?
The purpose of this study is to compare postoperative pain scores between children undergoing tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (T&A) surgery and their parents, identify potential predictors for this disagreement, and determine possible impact on analgesic administration. ⋯ Since parents overestimate their child's postoperative pain and may administer more analgesics to their child, it is essential to develop a standardized method of child pain assessment and a tailored recommended postoperative analgesic regimen amongst medical providers for children undergoing T&A.

Adjuvant Radiation Therapy Compared to Observation Alone for Postoperative Residual Non-functional Pituitary Adenomas.
The management of residual nonfunctional pituitary tumors after surgical resection remains controversial. In this study, we compared the prognosis of postoperative radiation therapy and observation only in patients with residual nonfunctional pituitary adenoma and reviewed the long-term complications after radiation therapy. ⋯ In this study, immediate radiation therapy after tumor resection was an effective and relatively safe treatment for residual or progressive nonfunctional pituitary adenomas. Moreover, the long-term complications of radiation therapy were mild.

Use of a Checklist for the Postanesthesia Care Unit Patient Handoff.
This quality improvement project aimed to evaluate the benefits of implementing a checklist in the postanesthesia care unit (PACU) setting to decrease the omission of health information during the handoff from anesthesia to PACU nurses. ⋯ The project was successful in implementing a standardized checklist and echoed the success of the articles reviewed. The use of a PACU handoff checklist can improve transfer of care by ensuring the provider receives more pertinent medical information during these transfers.
