ReviewThe nuts and bolts of multimodal anaesthesia in the 21st century: a primer for clinicians.
This review article explores the application of multimodal anaesthesia in general anaesthesia, particularly in conjunction with locoregional anaesthesia, specifically focusing on the importance of EEG monitoring. We provide an evidence-based guide for implementing multimodal anaesthesia, encompassing drug combinations, dosages, and EEG monitoring techniques, to ensure reliable intraoperative anaesthesia while minimizing adverse effects and improving patient outcomes. ⋯ The integration of EEG monitoring is crucial for guiding adequate multimodal anaesthesia and preventing excessive anaesthesia dosing. Furthermore, the review investigates the impact of combining regional and opioid-sparing general anaesthesia on perioperative EEG readings and anaesthetic depth. The findings have significant implications for clinical practice in optimizing multimodal anaesthesia techniques (Supplementary Digital Content 1: Video Abstract, http://links.lww.com/COAN/A96 ).

ReviewDecision-making in anesthesiology: will artificial intelligence make intraoperative care safer?
This article explores the impact of recent applications of artificial intelligence on clinical anesthesiologists' decision-making. ⋯ To fully realize the benefits of artificial intelligence in anesthesiology, several important considerations must be addressed, including its usability and workflow integration, appropriate level of trust placed on artificial intelligence, its impact on decision-making, the potential de-skilling of practitioners, and issues of accountability. Further research is needed to enhance anesthesiologists' clinical decision-making in collaboration with artificial intelligence.

ReviewInitiatives to detect and prevent death from perioperative deterioration.
This study indicates that there are differences between hospitals in detection, as well as in adequate management of postsurgical complications, a phenomenon that is described as 'failure-to-rescue'.In this review, recent initiatives to reduce failure-to-rescue in the perioperative period are described. ⋯ Improving the complete emergency chain, including monitoring, recognition and response in the afferent limb, as well as diagnostic and treatment in the efferent limb, should lead to reduced failure-to-rescue situations in the perioperative period.

The postoperative analgesia of retrolaminar block in patients undergoing surgery with general anesthesia: a systematic review.
Postoperative pain has always been a difficult problem in anesthesia management. The neurological block technique has been used for postoperative analgesia management, but compared with the traditional block method, the effect of postoperative analgesia after layer block is still controversial, and a clear literature review is needed. This systematic review's goal was to investigate RLB's impact on postoperative analgesia. ⋯ Based on the results of this review, RLB can be applied to thoracic surgery, abdominal surgery and parotid surgery, but its analgesic effect is not significant enough, and further research is needed in the future to provide stronger evidence for postoperative analgesia in surgical patients.

ReviewVascular Reconstruction After Cannulation for Support With Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation: Literature Review of Data in the Pediatric Population.
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is an invaluable life-support resource in the treatment of critically ill children. Traditionally, neck vascular cannulation requires ligation of the carotid artery and jugular vein. In this literature review, we identify rates of postoperative vessel patency, complications, and neurologic outcomes after vascular reconstruction following decannulation. ⋯ Vascular reconstruction after ECMO decannulation has been reported since 1990. Although reconstruction does not appear to carry significant short-term morbidity, there are no large prospective studies or randomized controlled trials demonstrating its efficacy in improving neurologic outcomes in ECMO patients. There is also a paucity of data regarding outcomes in older children or long-term ramifications of vascular reconstruction.
