Meta AnalysisThe effects of prophylactic use of esketamine on postoperative depression and quality of life: a meta-analysis.
The aim of this systemic review and meta-analysis was to assess the impact of prophylactic use of esketamine on postoperative depression and quality of life in patients. ⋯ Prophylactic use of esketamine during the preoperative and anesthesia period has shown significant benefits in improving postoperative quality of life. It can effectively alleviate postoperative depression, anxiety, and chronic pain, as well as enhance sleep quality.

Meta AnalysisEfficacy and safety of pericapsular nerve group block in total hip arthroplasty: a meta-analysis and systematic review.
Ensuring effective perioperative pain control is a crucial aspect of rehabilitation programs following total hip arthroplasty. This study presents a comprehensive meta-analysis and systematic review to assess the efficacy and safety of pericapsular nerve group block (PENG) in the context of total hip arthroplasty. ⋯ Based on the latest findings, PENG has been shown to effectively decrease pain scores within six and 24 hours following total hip arthroplasty. However, its effectiveness in pain control diminishes after 48 hours. Additionally, PENG has demonstrated the ability to reduce opioid consumption without an accompanying increase in adverse drug events.

The relationship between Alzheimer's disease biomarkers and postoperative complications, such as postoperative delirium (POD) and postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD), remains a subject of ongoing debate. ⋯ The study results indicate a negative correlation between preoperative CSF Aβ42 levels and the occurrence of both POD and POCD. Future investigations are warranted to identify the predictive cutoff value of preoperative CSF Aβ42 for POD and POCD.

Patients undergoing cardiac surgery are subject to infectious complications that adversely affect outcomes. Rapid identification is essential for adequate treatment. Procalcitonin (PCT) is a noninvasive blood test that could serve this purpose, however its validity in the cardiac surgery population is still debated. We therefore performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to estimate the accuracy of PCT for the diagnosis of postoperative bacterial infection after cardiac surgery. ⋯ These results suggest that PCT may be used to help rule out infection after cardiac surgery. The optimal threshold of 3 ng/mL identified in this work should be confirmed with large, well-designed randomized trials that evaluate the test's impact on health outcomes and on the use of antibiotic therapy. As 2 novel peripheral nerve blocks, the erector spinae plane block (ESPB) and thoracolumbar interfascial plane (TLIP) block can relieve postoperative pain in spinal surgery. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of ESPB versus TLIP block in patients undergoing spine surgery. ⋯ ESPB and TLIP block are 2 novel and effective block methods. Patients receiving ESPB had lower postoperative opioid consumption and postoperative pain scores compared with patients receiving TLIP block; there was no statistically significant difference's between the 2 groups in intraoperative opioid consumption, adverse events, and rescue analgesia.
