Children with positive blood cultures obtained in the emergency department (ED) prompt urgent actions due to the risk of bacteremia. This study aimed to validate the Hospital for Sick Children algorithm used for discriminating bacteremia from contaminants and identified variables associated with bacteremia in children with positive blood cultures. ⋯ The Hospital for Sick Children algorithm exhibits 100% sensitivity to detect children with bacteremia but demonstrated low specificity at 11%. We identified predictors to discriminate contaminants from bacteremia.

Diagnostic Accuracy of Combined Measurement of Serum Homocysteine, C-Reactive Protein, and Serum Ferritin in Mild Cognitive Impairments and Alzheimer's Disease.
Evaluation of the diagnostic accuracy of combined detection of serum homocysteine (Hcy), C-reactive protein (CRP), and serum ferritin (SF) levels in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI). ⋯ Homocysteine, C-reactive protein, Cognitive impairment, Serum ferritin, Alzheimer's disease.

Lateral elbow pain is quite common in everyday life. Lateral epicondylitis and radial tunnel syndrome are the most common causes of lateral elbow pain. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of neuromuscular ultrasound examination in the diagnosis of lateral epicondylitis versus radial tunnel syndrome. ⋯ The present study highlights the importance of the neuromuscular ultrasound's diagnostic role in differentiating radial tunnel syndrome from lateral epicondylitis in the clinical scenario of lateral elbow pain.

Chest X-ray, the established standard of confirming endotracheal tube (ETT) position, has important drawbacks including radiation exposure. Point-of-care airway ultrasound, which has been insufficiently studied in children, can overcome these problems. ⋯ Bedside ultrasound is a good method to confirm ETT depth in children. The tracheal ring method had the best diagnostic accuracy and is easy to perform. The new method using cricoid cuff distance needs further validation in different ICU settings.
