Effects of pecto-intercostal fascial block combined with rectus sheath block for postoperative pain management after cardiac surgery: a randomized controlled trial.
Pecto-intercostal fascial block (PIFB) provides analgesia for cardiac median sternotomy, but many patients complain of severe drainage pain that cannot be covered by PIFB. Rectus sheath block (RSB) has been attempted to solve this problem, but whether PIFB combined with RSB can achieve better analgesia is uncertain. ⋯ The combination of PIFB and RSB reduced postoperative intravenous opioid consumption until 48 h after cardiac surgery.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyPain treatment after total hip arthroplasty: Detailed statistical analysis plan for the RECIPE randomised clinical trial.
The RECIPE trial systematically investigates the effects of different combinations of paracetamol, ibuprofen and dexamethasone for pain treatment after total hip arthroplasty. To preserve transparency, minimise risk of bias and to prevent data-driven analysis, we present this detailed statistical analysis plan. ⋯ The RECIPE trial will provide important information on benefit and harm of combinations of the most frequently used non-opioid analgesics for pain after primary hip arthroplasty.

Respiratory effects of biased-ligand oliceridine in older volunteers: a pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic comparison with morphine.
Oliceridine is a G protein-biased µ-opioid, a drug class that is associated with less respiratory depression than nonbiased opioids, such as morphine. The authors quantified the respiratory effects of oliceridine and morphine in elderly volunteers. The authors hypothesized that these opioids differ in their pharmacodynamic behavior, measured as effect on ventilation at an extrapolated end-tidal Pco2 at 55 mmHg, V̇E55. ⋯ Oliceridine and morphine differ in their respiratory pharmacodynamics with a more rapid onset and offset of respiratory depression for oliceridine and a smaller magnitude of respiratory depression over time.

We investigated the efficacy and safety of twice-daily bilayer sustained-release tramadol hydrochloride tablets (35% immediate-release; 65% sustained-release) in patients with postherpetic neuralgia. ⋯ Sustained-release tramadol tablets with an immediate-release component are effective and well tolerated for managing postherpetic neuralgia.

Effects of thoracic paravertebral nerve block on postoperative pain and postoperative delirium in elderly patients undergoing thoracoscopic lobectomy.
To evaluate the effects of ultrasound-guided thoracic paravertebral nerve block on perioperative pain and postoperative delirium in elderly patients undergoing thoracoscopic lobotomy. ⋯ Preoperative ultrasound-guided thoracic paravertebral nerve block (TPVB) can obviously decrease the intraoperative and postoperative opioids consumption, shorten the recovery time, reduce the number of rescue analgesia and the incidence of postoperative delirium in elderly patients undergoing thoracoscopic lobotomy.
