Multicenter StudyCaregiver burden and emotional wellbeing in informal caregivers to ICU survivors - a prospective cohort study.
Informal caregivers to intensive care unit (ICU) survivors may develop post-intensive care syndrome family (PICS-F), including depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress (PTS). Our primary aim was to investigate associations between caregiver burden in informal caregivers cohabiting with ICU survivors and patients' physical and psychological outcomes. ⋯ Informal caregivers to ICU survivors with adverse physical or psychological outcome experience a higher caregiver burden. A higher caregiver burden correlates with worse caregiver mental HRQL. ICU follow-up programs should consider screening and follow-up of informal caregivers for mental health problems.

Resilience in advanced cancer caregiving. A systematic review and meta-synthesis.
Close relatives provide much of the care to people with cancer. As resilience can shield family caregivers from mental health problems, there has been a burgeoning interest in resilience-promoting interventions. However, the evidence necessary for the development of these interventions is scant and unsynthesized. ⋯ This review and theoretical synthesis reveal key elements of resilience in the process of cancer caregiving, including influencing factors and outcomes. Implications and avenues for further research are discussed.

[Wave riding - 12 months of COVID-19 in a German tertiary care center].
With more than 1400 COVID-19 inpatients, the university hospital of Essen is the main regional caregiver during COVID-19 pandemic. We present outcome data of our inpatients during the first 12 months of pandemic and our derived clinical care concepts. ⋯ The mortality of both patient groups ranges within the numbers published by other international groups. The vast impact of usual comorbidities could be observed as well as the high rate of complications in serious ill COVID-19 patients. The mean age of both patient groups was lower than expected (60 years standard care versus 63 years intermediate/ intensive care). A maximum of patient and staff protection measures, a fast and efficient testing strategy during primary triage, standardized concepts from emergency department to intensive care units and dynamic adjustment of resources to daily changing needs can ensure a high quality of care even during peak of pandemic.

Healthcare Professionals' Experiences of the Barriers and Facilitators to Pediatric Pain Management in the Community at End-of-Life: A Qualitative Interview Study.
Inadequate pain management in community pediatric palliative care is common. Evidence to inform improved pain management in this population is limited. ⋯ Partnership working and trust between healthcare professionals and parents, and within healthcare teams, is needed for effective at-home pediatric palliative pain management. Community healthcare professionals require more education from experienced multidisciplinary teams to effectively manage pediatric pain at end-of-life and prevent emergency hospice or hospital admissions, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
