Comparison of peritoneal tumor imaging using conventional MR imaging and diffusion-weighted MR imaging with different b values.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the utility of DW MRI with two different b values in identifying peritoneal tumors in oncology patients. ⋯ DWI with a high b value provides complementary information that can improve the detection of peritoneal tumors when combined with conventional MRI. We recommend combined MRI and DWI with a high b value for increasing the sensitivity and accuracy of the preoperative detection of peritoneal tumors.

This retrospective multi-institutional study addresses the role of surgical cytoreduction and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in the treatment of multicystic peritoneal mesothelioma (MCPM). MCPM is an uncommon tumour with uncertain malignant potential and no current standard therapy. Additionally, poorly defined pathological and biological features of this disease were investigated. ⋯ MCPM is a borderline tumour with a high propensity to local-regional recurrence. Definitive tumour eradication by means of cytoreduction and HIPEC seems more effective than debulking surgery in preventing disease relapse. Low mitotic rate and poor Ki-67 expression might be related to the peculiar behaviour of MCMP.

Case Reports[A case of lipoma of the lesser omentum with torsion of the pedicle in a twenty-eight-year-old woman].
A 28-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with abdominal pain. Abdominal CT scan demonstrated a well-demarcated heterogeneous lipid tumor about 8 cm in diameter anterior to the stomach. Abdominal ultrasonography (US) revealed a low echoic mass without enhancement of vascular images. ⋯ Finally the tumor was diagnosed as a lipoma of the lesser omentum with torsion of the pedicle. This is the third reported case of torsion of a lipoma. In addition, this case is considered as the first such case of lipoma of the lesser omentum.

Comparative StudyDiffusion-weighted MRI of peritoneal tumors: comparison with conventional MRI and surgical and histopathologic findings--a feasibility study.
The purpose of our study was to evaluate the utility of single-shot spin-echo echo-planar diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) using a b value of 400-500 s/mm(2) for depicting peritoneal tumors. ⋯ Adding DWI to routine MRI improves the sensitivity and specificity for depicting peritoneal metastases. Breath-hold DWI is now routinely used in all oncology patients referred for abdominal MRI at our institution.
