Multicenter StudyGabapentin for pain in pediatric palliative care.
Gabapentin is commonly used to treat pain in children receiving pediatric palliative care. This study describes the real-world use of gabapentin and the associated benefits and adverse effects/events (AEs). ⋯ Gabapentin prescribed at standard doses for advanced cancer and severe neurological injury in children under a pediatric palliative care service was associated with generally improved pain intensity at previously described levels of adverse effects.

We aim to present the first psychometric evaluation of the Performance-related Pain Among Musicians questionnaire (PPAM), the first questionnaire specifically designed to evaluate performance-related pain among musicians with different musical backgrounds, based on a multicenter validation study. The psychometric evaluation was performed in a validation sample of 458 musicians, at baseline and after seven days. We assessed the applicability, reliability, internal consistency, construct validity, and factor structure of the PPAM. ⋯ It will allow the development of more robust studies on pain and disability among musicians, comparative studies between different subgroups of musicians and the evaluation of predictive factors of pain development. PERSPECTIVE: This article presents the psychometric properties of the first questionnaire to evaluate pain among musicians (in general), the "Performance-related Pain among Musicians Questionnaire" (PPAM). This valid and reliable tool, composed by three constructs (pain intensity, interference in general activities, and interference in performance), will improve the pain assessment among musicians.

Multicenter StudyProlonged effects of dexamethasone following total knee arthroplasty: A pre-planned sub-study of the DEX-2-TKA trial.
The DEX-2-TKA trial demonstrated that one and two doses of 24 mg intravenous dexamethasone reduced opioid consumption and pain after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). We aimed to investigate the prolonged effects of dexamethasone after the 48-h intervention period. ⋯ We found that neither one nor two doses of 24 mg intravenous dexamethasone demonstrated prolonged effects on overall pain or sleep quality on postoperative days 3-7 after total knee arthroplasty. We also found that dexamethasone had no effect on patient satisfaction.

Multicenter Study Observational StudySelf-reported symptoms experienced by intensive care unit patients: a prospective observational multicenter study.
The purpose of this study is to describe the prevalence, intensity and distress of five symptoms in intensive care unit (ICU) patients and to investigate possible predictive factors associated with symptom intensity. ⋯ Self-reporting ICU patients experienced a high and consistent symptom burden across seven days. Certain variables were associated with the degree of symptom intensity, but further research is required to better understand these associations.

Efficacy of recurrent transcutaneous magnetic stimulation in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy: Multicenter randomized trial.
Transcutaneous magnetic stimulation (TCMS) is successful in decreasing pain in several neurologic conditions. This multicenter parallel double-blind phase II clinical trial is a follow-up to a pilot study that demonstrated pain relief in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) treated with TCMS. ⋯ In this two-arm trial, TCMS failed to demonstrate a significant benefit over sham in patient reported pain suggesting a substantial placebo effect in our previous pilot study.
