Results From a Prospective, Clinical Study (US-nPower) Evaluating a Miniature Spinal Cord Stimulator for the Management of Chronic, Intractable Pain.
Chronic, intractable, neuropathic pain is readily treatable with spinal cord stimulation (SCS). Technological advancements, including device miniaturization, are advancing the field of neuromodulation. ⋯ This clinical study demonstrated profound leg and low back pain relief in terms of overall pain reduction, as well as the proportion of therapy responders. The study patients reported the wearable aspects of the system to be very comfortable.

[Validation of the German version of the Fear-Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire (FABQ-D) for shoulder disorders].
With a prevalence of up to 30%, shoulder disorders form the third largest group of musculoskeletal complaints worldwide. Their formation and development are influenced by psychosocial factors such as movement-related fear. One of the internationally most common measurements for quantifying fear of movement is the Fear-Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire (FABQ). ⋯ The FABQ‑D is a reliable measurement tool. The construct validity should be further investigated in future studies. This study reproduced results from previous studies in other populations. The FABQ‑D appears to be an adequate measurement tool for quantifying fear of movement in patients with shoulder disorders.

Effect of perioperative pain neuroscience education in people undergoing surgery for lumbar radiculopathy: a multicentre randomised controlled trial.
Perioperative education should be improved to decrease unfavourable outcomes after lumbar surgery. This trial aimed to compare effectiveness in terms of pain, quality of life, pain cognition, surgical experience, healthcare use, work resumption, and cost-effectiveness of perioperative pain neuroscience education (PPNE) vs traditional biomedical education (perioperative biomedical education [PBE]) in people undergoing surgery for lumbar radiculopathy. ⋯ NCT02630732.

Prevalence and risk factors of significant persistent pain symptoms after critical care illness: a prospective multicentric study.
Prevalence, risk factors and medical management of persistent pain symptoms after critical care illness have not been thoroughly investigated. ⋯ Persistent pain symptoms were frequent in critical illness survivors and specialized management remained infrequent. Innovative approaches must be developed in the ICU to minimize the consequences of pain.

Intranasal ketamine for procedural sedation in children: An open-label multicenter clinical trial.
There are limited options for pain and distress management in children undergoing minor procedures, without the burden of an intravenous line insertion. Prior to this study, we conducted a dose-escalation study and identified 6 mg/kg as a potentially optimal initial dose of intranasal ketamine. ⋯ ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT03053947).
