Predictive Value of Betatrophin for Determining the Cardiovascular Risks of Obese Individuals.
To determine cardiovascular risk factors, calculate cardiovascular risk, and the value of betatrophin, a novel biomarker in predicting the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in obese individuals. ⋯ Its significant relationship with the risk groups determined by the Framingham scoring system and triglyceride level is promising for betatrophin to be used as a new biomarker in predicting the CVD risk. Association of Early-onset Androgenetic Alopecia and Metabolic Syndrome.
To evaluate the association of early-onset AGA (androgenetic alopecia) and metabolic syndrome in the younger male population. ⋯ This study suggests a significant association of AGA with metabolic syndrome. Tubulointerstitial nephritis (TIN) presents histopathologically as tubulitis and oedema/inflammation and fibrosis, affecting the renal tubules and interstitium with relative sparing of the glomeruli and vasculature. It can be acute or chronic or acute on chronic and has a wide range of etiologies. ⋯ The case is discussed in the context of literature regarding the nephrotoxic effects of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Case ReportsAcute Hepatitis-A Virus Infection as a Rare Cause of Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis.
Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare disorder of the mononuclear phagocytic system, characterised by histiocyte and lymphocyte activation. It can be classified as primary and secondary HLH. ⋯ We describe a case of HLH secondary to acute hepatitis-A virus infection, which was characterised by persistent fever, pancytopenia, splenomegaly, hyperferritinemia, and hemophagocytosis observed in the bone marrow. Rhabdomyolysis constitutes an uncommon cause of acute kidney injury (AKI). A large variety of causes with different pathogenic mechanisms may involve skeletal muscles resulting in rhabdomyolysis with or without acute kidney injury. Crush syndrome and unaccustomed physical exertion are the most common causes of rhabdomyolysis. ⋯ Most of the patients (10/16) were managed conservatively with fluid replacement; and some of them (6/16) needed dialysis.
