ReviewUpdate of the mechanism and characteristics of tuberculosis in chronic kidney disease : Review article.
The risk of tuberculosis (TB) is significantly increased in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), which is closely related to hyperparathyroidism, malnutrition and oxidative stress as well as immune deficiency in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Vitamin D deficiency and gender bias are independent risk factors. In the TB screening and diagnosis test of CKD, interferon-gamma release assays (IGRA), including T‑SPOT. ⋯ For CKD patients with TB, the choice and dosage of anti-TB drugs need to be reconsidered. Weekly treatment with rifapentin (RFT) and isoniazid (INH) for 3 months is an effective treatment for latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Therefore, in this review we discuss CKD and TB, its pathogenesis, clinical features, diagnosis and treatment advancements.

ReviewEffects of pulsed electromagnetic field therapy on outcomes associated with osteoarthritis : A systematic review of systematic reviews.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic degenerative disease of multiple joints with a rising prevalence. Pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy may provide a cost-effective, noninvasive, and safe therapeutic modality with growing popularity and use in physical medicine and rehabilitation. The purpose of this study was to synthesize the current knowledge on the use of PEMF in OA. ⋯ The PEMF therapy appears to be effective in the short term to relieve pain and improve function in patients with OA. The existing studies used very heterogeneous treatment schemes, mostly with low sample sizes and suboptimal study designs, from which no sufficient proof of efficacy can be derived. A catalogue of measures to improve the quality of future studies has been drawn up.

ReviewA survey among physicians in surgery and anesthesiology departments after the first surge of SARS-CoV-2 infections in Germany : Preparing for further challenges ahead.
The SARS-CoV‑2 pandemic has extensively challenged healthcare systems all over the world. Many elective operations were postponed or cancelled, changing priorities and workflows in surgery departments. ⋯ The aftermath of the first wave of SARS-CoV‑2 infections in Germany has left the surgical staff strained, despite temporarily decreased workloads. Overall, a critical review of the altered conditions is indispensable to identify and promote effective solutions and prudent action plans required to address imminent challenges.

ReviewFunctional Coronary Artery Assessment: a Systematic Literature Review.
Cardiovascular diseases represent the number one cause of death in the world, including the most common disorders in the heart's health, namely coronary artery disease (CAD). CAD is mainly caused by fat accumulated in the arteries' internal walls, creating an atherosclerotic plaque that impacts the blood flow functional behavior. Anatomical plaque characteristics are essential but not sufficient for a complete functional assessment of CAD. ⋯ We summarize benchmarks, metrics for evaluation, and challenges already faced, thus shedding light on the requirements for a valid, meaningful, and accepted technique for functional assessment evaluation. We create a base of comparison based on quantitative and qualitative indicators and highlight the most relevant geometrical metrics that correlate with lesion significance. Finally, we point out future benchmarks based on recent literature.
