Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialPyridostigmine in postpolio syndrome: no decline in fatigue and limited functional improvement.
To investigate the effect of pyridostigmine on fatigue, physical performance, and muscle function in subjects with postpoliomyelitis syndrome. ⋯ Pyridostigmine in the prescribed dose did not reduce fatigue in subjects with postpoliomyelitis syndrome. However, it may have a limited beneficial effect on physical performance, especially in subjects with neuromuscular transmission defects in normal sized motor units.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialA randomised placebo controlled study to assess the effects of cholinergic treatment on muscarinic receptors in Alzheimer's disease.
To determine the effects of cholinergic treatment on the muscarinic receptor in patients with Alzheimer's disease. ⋯ The results suggest that (123)I-QNB uptake is better preserved in Alzheimer's disease patients on cholinergic treatment than on placebo. Cholinergic treatment may play a neuroprotective role. Sequential (123)I-QNB imaging seems to be a powerful tool in monitoring the response of these receptors to disease modifying treatments.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialStroke motor recovery: active neuromuscular stimulation and repetitive practice schedules.
To investigate progress toward motor recovery in patients with chronic hemiparesis (mean time since stroke 3.2 years), comparing different types of practice schedules. ⋯ Upper extremity rehabilitation intervention of active stimulation and blocked practice performed as well as stimulation/random practice. Moreover, these purposeful voluntary movement findings support and extend sensorimotor integration theory to both practice schedules.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialA randomised controlled trial comparing rehabilitation against standard therapy in multiple sclerosis patients receiving intravenous steroid treatment.
There is evidence to support both the use of intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) in multiple sclerosis (MS) relapse and physiotherapy in the management of MS, but no studies have investigated the combination of steroids and rehabilitation together. ⋯ This study indicates that combining steroids with planned MDT care is superior to administering them in a standard neurology or day ward setting. Further research is necessary in order to confirm this finding.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialSplinting for carpal tunnel syndrome: prognostic indicators of success.
To identify (combinations of) prognostic indicators for the long term success of splinting in patients with electrophysiologically confirmed idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). ⋯ For patients to whom both factors applied, the predicted probability of treatment success, according to the model, was 62%. The overall percentage of patients who were correctly classified by the model was 78% (95% CI 69% to 87%).
