Supplementation of parenteral nutrition (PN) admixtures with other parenteral drugs may be desired especially in the case of polypharmacy and limited vascular access. Metronidazole (MTZ) is administered in surgical and critically ill patients often requiring concomitant nutritional therapy in the form of parenteral nutrition. The aim of the study was to evaluate the possibility of the concomitant administration of MTZ with PN admixtures from one container. ⋯ Results showed the physicochemical compatibility and stability of PN admixtures supplemented with MTZ at the dose of 1500 mg. Such formulations can be stored at a temperature of 5°C for up to 7 d before administration to the patient.

The aims of this study was to investigate the association of phase angle (PA) with sarcopenia and its components and to evaluate the effectiveness of PA in sarcopenia diagnosis in older men (>65 y of age) with cancer. ⋯ PA is related to diagnostic components of sarcopenia, HGS and SMI. PA can be useful in the diagnosis of sarcopenia in older male patients with cancer. The cutoff value proposed in this study was 4.25°.

Observational Study
Ultra-processed foods and binge eating: A retrospective observational study.
There is increasing evidence of the impact of ultra-processed foods on multiple metabolic and neurobiological pathways, including those involved in eating behaviors, both in animals and in humans. In this study we aimed to explore ultra-processed foods and their link with disordered eating in a clinical sample. ⋯ Further research into the metabolic and neurobiological effects of ultra-processed food intake on disordered eating, particularly on binging, is needed.

Breakfast consumption on the go is becoming an established food habit; this has been accompanied by a growing number of related products. Given the limited research on these products and the growing trend in breakfast consumption away from home and on the go, the aim of this cross-sectional study was to survey and scrutinize the nutritional composition of breakfast on-the-go products available in the UK. ⋯ Reformulation of breakfast on-the-go products, principally with respect to sugar content, is warranted. This is particularly relevant given the growing role of breakfast consumption on the go and ongoing developments in the sector as new product ranges and formats are introduced.

People who are critically ill have high rates of endotoxemia that can significantly decrease bile flow and increase bile cytokines, the latter of which might worsen their condition. Bile acids are nutrient-signaling hormones that have a significant impact on gut barrier function and motility, and the gut is considered the origin of systemic inflammation. Therefore, healthy exogenous bile could be a promising gut nutrient for critical illness, so the biomedical role of bile in endotoxemia was investigated in this study. ⋯ Bile is a promising gut nutrient that inhibits gut bacterial translocation and promotes gut motility via an IL-6-related pathway in experimental endotoxemia.
