Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Comparison of analgesic efficacy of paracetamol and tramadol for pain relief in active labor.
To evaluate the efficacy and safety profile of paracetamol in comparison with tramadol for pain relief during active labor. ⋯ Intravenous paracetamol provides comparable analgesia as intramuscular tramadol during active labor.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Landiolol in the treatment of the intraoperative supraventricular tachycardia: a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study.
Supraventricular tachycardia during the induction of anesthesia may carry a higher risk. ⋯ Intravenous landiolol (loading dose of 0.125 mg/kg) may effectively control intraoperative supraventricular tachycardia during anesthesia. It inhibited the increases in HR during the induction of anesthesia. The effect of landiolol on blood pressure was minimal without decreasing diastolic blood pressure and with the minor reduction of systolic blood pressure (ClinicalTrials.gov number, ChiCTR-TRC-12003021).

Effects of stellate ganglion block on cardiovascular reaction and heart rate variability in elderly patients during anesthesia induction and endotracheal intubation.
To investigate the effects of stellate ganglion block (SGB) on cardiovascular response and heart rate (HR) variability in elderly patients during anesthesia induction and endotracheal intubation. ⋯ SGB protects the myocardium and effectively suppresses stress responses during anesthesia induction and tracheal intubation in elderly patients.

Head elevation improves laryngeal exposure with direct laryngoscopy.
The aim of this study was to examine the effect of changing head position on the laryngeal view in the same subject. ⋯ Sniffing position improves glottic exposure when the laryngoscopic grade is greater than 1 in the head-flat position. The elevated sniffing position improves the view to a better grade in some patients. Because head elevation was not associated with a worse grade in any subject, the elevated sniffing position should be considered as the initial head position before direct laryngoscopy when a difficult exposure is anticipated.

Effect of hydroxyethyl starch 130/0.4 on ischemia-reperfusion determinants in minor lower extremity surgery with tourniquet application.
To investigate the effect of 6% hydroxyethyl starch (HES) (130/0.4) infusion on ischemia-reperfusion determinants in minor lower extremity operations with tourniquet application. ⋯ HES infusion may be beneficial for reduction of tourniquet-associated ischemia-reperfusion injury; however, further large-scale studies are needed to fully elucidate its mechanism.
