Whipple's disease is a very rare systemic infectious disease with an annual incidence of 3 in one million, which may be fatal if not diagnosed and treated appropriately. ⋯ Whipple's disease should be kept in mind while dealing with patients with severe malabsorption, even in the absence of accompanying features of the disease.

The purpose of this study was to estimate the prevalence of presenteeism in patients with communicable diseases in Poland. ⋯ The prevalence of presenteeism in the case of communicable diseases in Poland is lower than in the general population. However, as the refusals to take sick leave took place in the case of potentially contagious diseases, the negative impact on productivity may be significant.

Acute kidney injury (AKI), which is prevalent in ST-segment elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients who have undergone primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), is associated with poor cardiovascular outcomes. As high pulse pressure (PP) is associated with adverse cardiovascular events, the present study's aim was to evaluate the relationship between fractional PP (PPf) and AKI in patients with STEMI who underwent primary PCI. ⋯ Invasively measured PPf, which can be easily measured and has no additional cost in STEMI patients undergoing coronary intervention, is an independent predictor of AKI. In addition, PPf is superior to other blood pressure values and derivatives in AKI prediction.

We aimed to determine the quality of life (QoL) of Kuwaiti adults with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) who used continuous subcutaneous insulin infusions (CSIIs) and to understand their perception of this treatment. ⋯ The identified themes highlight the complexity of the experiences of participants, and can be used to provide a framework to help healthcare providers understand how people with T1DM become aware of their treatment regimens. It is important to identify the positive aspects of CSII and not focus only on its negative effects.
