Analysis of acute extremity compartment syndrome using a genealogic population database.
Acute extremity compartment syndrome ("CS") is an under-researched, highly morbid condition affecting trauma populations. The purpose of this study was to analyze incidence rates and risk factors for extremity compartment syndrome using a high-quality population database. Additionally, we evaluated heritable risk for CS using available genealogic data. We hypothesized that diagnosis of extremity compartment syndrome would demonstrate heritability. ⋯ III.

Increased femoral anteversion in females with anterior knee pain relates to both the neck and the shaft of the femur.
Increased femoral anteversion (FAV) can have many clinical manifestations, including anterior knee pain (AKP). To our knowledge, no studies have measured the location of FAV in a cohort of female AKP patients. The objective of this research is to determine whether the increased FAV in AKP females originates above the lesser trochanter, below the lesser trochanter or at both levels. ⋯ In chronic AKP female patients with increased FAV, the two segments of the femur contribute to the total FAV, with a different pattern among patients and controls, being the compensation mechanism of the diaphysis much lower in the pathological femurs than in the controls.

Review Meta AnalysisRisk factors for osteonecrosis of the humeral head after internal fixation of proximal humeral fractures: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Osteonecrosis of the humeral head (ONHH) is a severe complication after the internal fixation of proximal humeral fractures (IFPHF). The risk factors remain controversial though many studies have reported. In this research, meta-analysis was used to evaluate which surgeon-level factors can be modified to lower the risk and we hope to provide evidence-based support for preventing ONHH. ⋯ The study showed that age, reduction quality, fracture type, surgical approach and fixation implant were risk factors for ONHH after IFPHF, while gender, varus or valgus, timely operation, injured side, and the existence of medial support have little influence on ONHH, as they could not be considered risk factors and still need further investigations.

Review Meta Analysis Comparative StudyComparison between screw fixation and plate fixation via sinus tarsi approach for displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Optimal surgical fixation for displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures (DIACF) remains a subject of debate, particularly regarding the superiority between screw fixation and plate fixation via the sinus tarsi approach (STA). This review aims to determine the preferred treatment for DIACF and compare the outcomes of minimally invasive surgery options. ⋯ Plate fixation demonstrates superior capability in restoring calcaneal width, maintaining Bohler's angle, and minimizing intra-articular step-off, thereby maintaining better reduction of the subtalar articular surface. In addition, plate fixation exhibits the modest complication rate and a low incidence of fixation failure. Therefore, we recommend the use of plate fixation through the STA, especially for complex and comminuted intra-articular calcaneal fractures.
