An Impact of Relative Adrenal Insufficiency on Short-Term Outcomes in Non-Critically Ill Cirrhotic Patients: A Prospective Cohort Study.
Relative adrenal insufficiency (RAI) is frequently found in patients with liver cirrhosis, especially in critically ill conditions. However, the prognostic impact of RAI in non-critically ill cirrhosis remains controversial. The aim of the present study was to assess the prevalence of RAI and its prognostic implication in non-critically ill cirrhotic patients. ⋯ RAI is found in about one-third of hospitalised non-critically ill cirrhotic patients and is associated with the severity of cirrhosis. However, the presence of RAI has no influence on short-term outcomes.

Distinct associations of self-monitoring of blood glucose with glycemic control and hypoglycemia between groups of recently diagnosed and long-term follow-up type 2 diabetes: the Taiwan Diabetes Registry.
We investigated the uses and frequency of self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) with glycemic control and hypoglycemia in two groups of type 2 diabetes (T2D) (recently diagnosed and long-term follow-up) using real-world data in Taiwan (the Taiwan Diabetes Registry). ⋯ We reported different associations between SMBG and glycemic control in patients recently diagnosed with T2D and in T2D patients with long-term follow-up. SMBG was associated with higher detection of hypoglycemic episodes in both study populations.

We aimed to investigate whether the risk of diabetes mellitus (DM) is heightened in patients with prostate cancer receiving injection therapy. ⋯ Patients with prostate cancer had an increased risk of DM compared with patients without prostate cancer. Patients with prostate cancer who received injection therapy had a lower risk of DM compared with those who did not.

The aims of this research were to review patients visiting the paediatric emergency department over a 6-month period 1 year before and during the pandemic, to review paediatric emergency department referral ratios and to determine whether there were any significant decreases in mortality and morbidity. ⋯ In Turkey, where emergency consultation rates are quite high, these decreases look fearsome for secondary injuries that can develop in children. For this reason, families should be made aware of the importance of bringing their children to the hospital during emergencies, and that all necessary health precautions are being taken to decrease the spread of infection in hospitals.
