A prospective cohort study of two predictor models for 30-day emergency readmission in older patients.
To undertake a prospective study of the accuracy of two models (LACE and BOOST) in predicting unplanned hospital readmission in older patients (>75 years). ⋯ In this prospective study, both the BOOST and LACE scores were found to be significant yet poor, predictive models of hospital readmission. Recent hospitalisation (within the previous 6 months) was found to be the most significant contributing factor.

Promising effects of atorvastatin on mortality and need for mechanical ventilation in patients with severe COVID-19; a retrospective cohort study.
Considering the anti-inflammatory effect of atorvastatin and the role of medical comorbidities such as hypertension and coronary artery disease on the prognosis of the COVID-19 patients, we aimed to assess the effect of atorvastatin add-on therapy on mortality caused by COVID-19. ⋯ Atorvastatin add-on therapy in patient with severe COVID-19 was associated with lower in-hospital mortality and reduced the risk of need for invasive mechanical ventilation which supports to continue the prescription of the medication.

Risk of diabetes mellitus in patients with prostate cancer receiving injection therapy: a nationwide population-based propensity score-matched study.
We aimed to investigate whether the risk of diabetes mellitus (DM) is heightened in patients with prostate cancer receiving injection therapy. ⋯ Patients with prostate cancer had an increased risk of DM compared with patients without prostate cancer. Patients with prostate cancer who received injection therapy had a lower risk of DM compared with those who did not.

Pediatric Asthma Exacerbation Admissions and Stringency of Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions; Results from a Developing Country.
Non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPI) mitigation measures implemented to mitigate COVID-19 has brought unprecedented global impact. Changes in daily living routines, reduction in physical activities, and changes in environmental indicators were suggested to positively impact paediatric asthma indicators in western cultures. Little is known about such impact in developing countries. This study investigated the potential impact of COVID-19 NPI measures on paediatric asthma exacerbation admissions in Northern Jordan. ⋯ NPI measures in Jordan seem to have positively impacted paediatric asthma exacerbation admissions. Further studies are needed to draw public health policies and fine-tune environmental and community policies.

Clinicopathological characteristics of patients with esophageal squamous papilloma in Turkey and comparison with the literature data: the largest case series ever reported from Turkey.
Oesophageal squamous papilloma (ESP) is a rare tumoural lesion of the oesophagus considered to have a benign course. Due to the fact that they are rare lesions, there are not many publications with large case series on ESPs in the literature. In this study, we aimed to investigate the clinical, endoscopic and histopathological characteristics of ESPs. ⋯ In this study with the largest case series ever reported from Turkey, it was determined that ESPs were seen in younger ages in Turkey and were also smaller in size, which is not in agreement with the literature data. Besides, this study, in which ESPs were most frequently detected in the middle oesophagus, supports the view that GERD may not be the main factor in ESP aetiology.
