Eosinophilic phenotype was associated with better early clinical remission in elderly but not middle-aged patients with acute exacerbations of COPD.
There is limited evidence of the relationship between peripheral blood eosinophils and clinical remission of acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) at different ages, especially in elderly patients, which was the objective of the present study. ⋯ Eosinophilic exacerbation was associated with better early clinical remission of AECOPD patients during hospitalisation. As stratified by ages, similar results were observed in elderly patients but not middle-aged patients. Blood eosinophils at different ages may be valuable in personalised management for AECOPD.

Impact of intermediate to high-doses of methylprednisolone on mortality rate in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia-induced severe systemic inflammation.
In addition to respiratory support needs, patients' characteristics to guide indication or timing of corticosteroid treatment in COVID-19 patients are not completely established. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of methylprednisolone on mortality rate in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia-induced severe systemic inflammation (PI-SSI). ⋯ Intermediate to high doses of methylprednisolone, initiated between 5 and 12 days after symptom onset, was associated with a significant reduction in 28-day all-cause mortality in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia and ≥3 o ≥ 4 altered IB, independently of the need of respiratory support.

The aim of the current study was to investigate Erectile dysfunction (ED) in asthma patients without comorbidity and the relationship between the level of asthma control and ED. ⋯ The current study showed that ED is frequent and more severe in asthma patients than controls with same age. A highly negative correlation was found between ED degree and asthma control severity.

The effect of vesicourethral anastomosis technique on functional results in retropubic radical prostatectomy.
We aimed to compare the functional results of two different vesicourethral anastomosis (VUA) techniques used in open retropubic radical prostatectomy. ⋯ Better continence results can be provided with the six-focus VUA technique compared with the four-focus technique. The number of anastomotic sutures in VUA may affect functional results and can be a determinative factor for surgeons who focus on functional results as well as oncological results.

Clinical-radiological correlations in COVID-19-related venous thromboembolism: preliminary results from a multidisciplinary study.
Among the multiple complex pathophysiological mechanisms underlying COVID-19 pneumonia, immunothrombosis has been shown to play a key role. One of the most dangerous consequences of the prothrombotic imbalance is the increased incidence of micro- and macrothrombotic phenomena, especially deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). ⋯ In our cohort radiological parameters showed a significant correlation with clinical prognostic indices and scores, thus suggesting that a multidisciplinary approach is advisable in the evaluation of PE in COVID-19 patients.
