Review Case ReportsUse of radiofrequency ablation for controlling liver hemorrhage in the emergency setting; report of two cases and review of the literature.
Active liver hemorrhage with hemodynamic instability is a serious situation often requiring surgical intervention. The most common causes of hepatic bleeding are trauma and tumors of the liver parenchyma: mainly hepatocellular carcinoma and adenoma. Liver hemorrhage from blunt trauma or spontaneous tumor rupture is sometimes difficult to control with traditional methods and postoperative complications are frequent. ⋯ No recurrence of the hemorrhage or any side effects associated with the RF system were recorded postoperatively. RF system is an effective strategy for achieving hemostasis in patients with active liver hemorrhage. In cases of bleeding liver tumors, RFA could also be helpful in synchronous tumor elimination, maximizing the chances of longer term survival.

Review Case ReportsInferior glenohumeral dislocation (luxatio erecta humeri): report of six cases and review of the literature.
Inferior shoulder dislocation, also referred to as luxatio erecta, is a rare type of shoulder dislocation. Its incidence is about 1 in 200 (0.5%) among all shoulder dislocations. The objective of this study was to review six cases of inferior shoulder dislocation, including their clinical and radiological presentation, management, and final outcome. ⋯ Doctors should be familiar with the occurrence of this infrequent condition and should prevent possible complications that might result from early reductions by using correct maneuvers in lieu of ordinary reduction techniques.

ReviewSubmental endotracheal intubation as an alternative to tracheostomy in selected cases of facial fracture: literature review and technique report.
Intermaxillary fixation (IMF) is an essential guide to optimize the reduction and fixation of most facial fractures associated with occlusal alterations. To allow IMF, nasotracheal intubation is used in most cases. ⋯ Submental endotracheal intubation allows IMF to be used without resorting to nasal intubation or tracheostomy, and it does not interfere with reduction and fixation of fractures in most cases. The purpose of this article is to describe the indications, contraindications and the technique of submental endotracheal intubation as performed in our service.

Review Case ReportsClosed total (pan-talar) dislocation of the talus with delayed presentation: a rare case report and review of the literature.
Major fractures and dislocation of the talus and peritalar joint are uncommon. We present here a very rare case of injury with delayed presentation of closed total talus dislocation with fractured medial malleolus and posterior talar tubercle fracture. This report analyzes previous reports in the literature and the proposed treatment.

Review Case ReportsPyloric atresia associated with epidermolysis bullosa: report of two cases and review of the literature.
The coexistence of pyloric atresia (PA) and epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a rare but well-known surgical emergency in neonates. PA/EB is described by the association of atresia of the pylorus and bullous lesions on the skin. Ninety one cases have been reported in the literature to date. ⋯ Almost all neonates born with the PA/EB result in a fatal outcome in the first few years. The complications related to EB are usually the cause of death. Even after successful repair of PA, skin lesions lead to death due to infection.
