The present study investigated the clinical and morphological characteristics of the vertebrobasilar artery associated with vascular healing in patients with unruptured spontaneous intracranial vertebral artery (VA) dissection (VAD). ⋯ Spontaneous vascular normalization of unruptured spontaneous intracranial VAD might be associated with female sex, nonsmoking, no posteroinferior cerebellar artery involvement, a smaller vertebral-union-basilar angle and vertebral-union-vertebral angle, distal dissection from the VA union, less basilar artery bending, and luminal irregularity/steno-occlusion.

A subset of patients with chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) remains refractory to standard treatment with hematoma drainage by burr-hole craniotomy and irrigation. We recently reported the usefulness of middle meningeal artery (MMA) embolization for intractable CSDH in patients with multiple intractable risk factors. We present the midterm outcomes of MMA embolization in patients with intractable CSDHs. ⋯ Despite the known unfavorable outcomes of patients with intractable CSDHs, MMA embolization was not associated with recurrent CSDH or rehospitalization in our department in the current case series. MMA embolization should be considered a preferred therapeutic option for intractable CSDHs.

Skull fractures caused by birth injury are mainly compression and linear fractures, but the incidence is known to be rare. It has been recently suggested, however, that greenstick fractures (GSFs) are more common than compression or linear fractures that are detected through 3-dimensional reconstructed computed tomography. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the correlation of GSF with perinatal factors, the accompanying head injury factors, and the long-term outcomes in neonates. ⋯ It was concluded that GSF most commonly occurs as a birth-related skull fracture and that birth-related GSF is associated with perinatal factors, birth-related head injuries, and deterioration of long-term development. Therefore, efforts should be made to prevent GSF at birth.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a common malignant tumor of the head and neck, and is associated with high recurrence and low survival rates; however, distant brain metastasis from NPC is rare. ⋯ Despite the poor prognosis, salvage SRS was performed for these rare brain metastases from NPC.

Lower Iron Levels Predict Acute Hydrocephalus Following Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage.
We tested the hypothesis that low serum iron levels are associated with acute hydrocephalus following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). ⋯ Lower serum iron levels after aSAH was a predictor of acute hydrocephalus and unfavorable outcome.
