Ependymoma is the most frequent spinal tumor in adults but it is rather uncommon in children. The aim of the present study was to retrospectively summarize the clinical and therapeutic experience in the treatment of pediatric spinal ependymomas in France. ⋯ Our data suggest that initial adjuvant RT might improve PFS after GTR but will not prevent relapse in patients with STR. Further studies are needed to define more specific treatments for the latter group.

To evaluate safety and effectiveness of the application of piezosurgery in en bloc laminectomy for the treatment of multilevel thoracic ossification of ligamentum flavum (MTOLF). ⋯ The application of piezosurgery in en bloc laminectomy is a safe and effective method in the treatment of MTOLF, and it was advantageous for reducing both operation time and intraoperative blood loss compared with the high-speed drill.

Seizures are the second most common clinical presentation in patients with brain arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) and the most common presentation of unruptured AVMs. The aim of the present multicenter, retrospective cohort study was to identify the predictors of seizure presentation in patients with AVM who had undergone stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). ⋯ We identified multiple factors associated with seizure presentation in patients with AVM to undergo SRS. Previous AVM resection, a cortical AVM location, and a lack of previous AVM hemorrhage were the strongest predictors of pre-SRS seizures. The Spetzler-Martin grade and Virginia radiosurgery AVM score might have a role in seizure risk stratification. For cortical AVMs, a temporal lobe location was predictive of seizure presentation.

Parotid adenocarcinoma comprises 10% of all parotid cancers and does not frequently produce distant metastases. The most common site for metastases is the lung, and there have only been 2 reported cases of skeletal metastases. The purpose of this study is to report the first vertebral metastasis from a primary parotid adenocarcinoma. Patient records, imaging, and pathology from a case of vertebral metastasis of a primary parotid adenocarcinoma were reviewed. A literature review of parotid adenocarcinoma metastases was also performed and is presented. ⋯ Distant metastases from a primary parotid adenocarcinoma are rare events, especially metastases to bone. This case represents the first vertebral metastasis from a primary parotid adenocarcinoma.

Despite the superb visualization offered by the endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal approach, the resection rates of large and giant pituitary adenomas have remained much lower than those of smaller macroadenomas. Various tumor characteristics can influence the extent of resection (EOR) and have been variably reported. Additional understanding of these factors is mandatory to improve the results. We analyzed the radiological and intraoperative tumor characteristics influencing the EOR in a cohort of patients with large and giant pituitary macroadenomas undergoing endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal excision under our care. ⋯ Volumetric analysis should replace 2-dimensional methods in determining the size of large and giant pituitary adenomas. Specific tumor characteristics were associated with the EOR and could help in predicting the EOR for these tumors.
